    Hi,

My current deal with Virgin is this

    M TV, 30mb broadband, M phone. V+ box.

    I am current paying £40.90 a month.

I have just been on the phone to Virgin retentions and have been offered
    this deal.

XL TV, 30mb broadband, M phone. New TIVO box and relocation of current V+ box for multi room.

All this for £48.90 a month + £15 one off install and an 18 month contract. (£25 install for 12 month contract)

Would this be considered a good deal? My first thought is that it is quite a good deal as for an extra £9 a month we would have a better box downstairs, multi room + all of the channels.

    What does everyone think?

    Thanks
    Paul
  • I left sky only a month ago, mainly due to their astonomical broadband prices for my area (£17 a month!) They offered me £17.50 per month for TV only at the time but I was so annoyed that I turned it down (I also didn't realise I wouldn't be able to use the plus function on the box) I very rarely watch TV these day as I have a young child and work full time so I don't want to be paying too much for it but I am missing having it available when I get the time to watch.
I'm not really interested in the movie or sports channels but I do want the entertainment extra package so that I have sky atlantic and the documentaries. Sky are charging £26.50 a month for this package only. Which for the amount i'll use it is ridiculous.
When I left sky I signed up with plusnet for broadband and phone as they were far cheaper than everyone else but it does leave me with sky as my only option for TV as BT needs they're own bradband and Virgin is not available in my area.
So do I have any scope to beat down sky's price and how do I go about it? Any advice anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I see someone mentioned opening another account in spouse's name-would this work?

Well I finally got a better offer from Sky in the post today, still 50% off for 12 months but this time with £50 credit thrown in. Thanks but no thanks Sky, keep trying, offer me the 75% deal and I might consider, but only with a decent HD deal thrown in too!!

If you left a month ago then it won't be too long before you receive the ' Please come back' letter offering you 50% off for 12 months.

What a load of crock. Ring retentions and they will put you on 30mbit straight off the bat, they'll even send you a Superhub.

10mbit profile is 10 up 1 down, which is exactly what you're getting. Its not listed as 100mbit in connection settings, you're reading it wrong.

Don't ask, don't get. Stop moaning and be proactive.
Thanks for your input Phreaky !
I DID ring Retentions, that is the info given back to me - and no deal/reduction..
I have ALSO previously phoned them and received a reduction....only to subsequently receive a letter from Virgin saying "...we've just been reviewing your account, and noticed you haven't been paying for so-and-so, and this will be added from your next bill..". So cost back up.
The speed of 100Mb shown in Connection Settings is definitely there (preset or otherwise, I can't change it) - it may be a cable speed generalisation of 'up to') in my Linux Ubuntu - and please do not knock that excellent system as well.
I'm not moaning, but just trying to let people know the situation with the original cable system for many users. This business of 10 Mg and doubling to a maximum limit of 20Mg is what Virgin told me.
My sources of information include Virgin themselves, Which?, and Ofcom.
I was pro Virgin (and NTL) once too.

I had to wait just over 2 months after my Sky ended (end of March) before I received my first offer (early June).

A question to you all? I have a HD tv downstairs connected to sky + box and two other tvs which are connected to the same feed (we got a little box splitter thing at the back-no idea how it works!), so if I update to sky hd do i have to upgrade the other tvs and also does a sky hd box record like the sky + box does?
