Compared to some on here I think I could get a much better deal from Virgin, any opinions please?
Line Rental £12.24
XL TV £25
1 Additional V Box £15
V+ Box
L BB (10Mb) £25.25
Paper Bill Charge £1.25
Triple combo loyalty pack discount -£18.25
Additional loyalty discount -£1.75
Additional set top box discount -£9.40
+ Sky Sports Collection £22.50
Total £71.84
Do you think this is excessive?

I have the full Sky HD package and to be honest, in this climate can anyone justify £70 per month for "telly" ??
I am also looking at Virgin as when you consider £70 for Sky and £12 or so per month for the TV license, it actually costs more per annum for bloody TV than electricity...
Can anyone advise on the pro's or con's of virgin HD v Sky? (Also been told Virgins broadband is second to none??)0 -
I just rang Sky to discuss my package (ooh er missus) as I have the 6 mix pack, unlimited broadband and free calls package and came away with nothing but the suggestion that Sky take another £30 off me to give me an HD box when the guy already knew I don't have an HD-ready telly (blinking old Panny just won't die!) and a debate about whether television is a luxury or a necessity (for the record Mr. Sky Employee, I actually said that SKY is a luxury, not that television is a luxury).
What happened to all these tales of 6 months at half price? Or did I just strike it lucky with a grumpy Scotsman (no offence peeps) who took delight in telling me that most people didn't even have electricity until the 1930s but we consider that to be a NECESSITY. Where did I go wrong? I told the guy that I was with Sky for two and a half years with no changes, apart from the fact their prices just keep going up, and that I was considering other providers to cut down on my expenditure.
Harumph.
Have you read the post on the main site that Martin made? A former employee gives tips about what day to ring etc if I recall. Like I said above it helps to have plenty of ammo to hand ie "Virgin in my area will give me X for X which is X cheaper than you, I like Sky but have no loyalty really - what can you do?" I suspect just ringing with a "Ive heard I can get some money off for nothing" might not cut it0 -
Hi
we've been with virgin for 8 years odd now, tv L broadband M phone M, paying £43 a month. we want an hd+ box, just phoned virgin to see if theres any deals they can do and they said
£49.99 to buy a hd+ box
£49 package + £10.95 for hd (60.94 a month) package would be tv XL, broadband L(they don't do a M anymore) and phone M.
sounded to much to me, so re phoned and got through to cancelleations, she said we wouldn't get a better deal anywhere and has put through the cancellation request now.
should I panic and phone back and beg not to be cut off?:o:p or does anyone think I will get a better deal?0 -
sadly Sky have the monopoly on satellite TV and Virgin have the monopoly on cable TV. So as much as we want to believe these companies will do anything to keep us the truth they really don't care. The woman you spoke is probably right and you wont get a better deal mainly because no other cable companies exists to rival them. I believe the whole HD package is a waste of money. its more hype than genuine viewing improvement. So bearing in mind you are facing a company like virgin who has the monopoly over your custom your options are
a) call back and hope the cancellation hasnt gone through and ask for the 6 months half price offer they currently offer to new customers (offers are available to all customers at all times not just new)
b) call sky and as if they can beat virgins offer and consider moving to them
c) get one of those internet boxes that give you all channels for free not gonna give the details here as its probably against site rule but google digital-kaosHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. thanks, the reason (i thought) we wanted a v+ box is to record programs, i've just been googling, and we can get that from a box from comet(or somewhere) for one off price of £150-£200 yeah?
we don't use the phone at all, so then it would just be broadband we would need. googling that looks like its only virgin that does it !!(broadband with no phone line):(
am i right in thinking i can cancel the cancellation anytime between now and 30 days time? and stay with what we have.0 -
Well just phoned Sky with a genuine intention of cancelling now I don't get my staff offer and starting to get charged full-whack, and the guy on the phone immediately said "tell you what, how about 6 months half-price?"
I took itwould be a crime against MSE's everywhere to say no!

you can always sign up again as theyll take your money as long as you wanna give it them. you could go for a dongle for the internet but that depends on what speeds you want and your usage. Also when you call virgin back done be surprised if this time you do get a better offer as it all depends on whom you speak to and what mood they are in.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I just spoke to Jim, a friendly Scottish Sky bloke. We have got Sky World (movies, sports and all other channels) as well as broadband unlimited and Sky talk freetime. Our bills were coming in at about £80. We didn't have HD. Our current box is in the process of packing up (Sky+ recordings pixellated and jumping around back and forwards in time) and we are not utilising the full potential of our HD ready TV.
The phone call led to a free HD box (well, £15 delivery) and 25% off for a year! However, 25% doesn't apply to HD subscription, but we'll have HD and be paying less than we are now. He offered free service call as an alternative or 50% off for six months. We figured that the discount for a year would be better, even though it equates to the same as the 50% for six months. He tried to give me Sky Anytime + for free too but the computer system wouldn't put it through without an engineer coming out to install. He did enable the subscription so I'm hoping to wangle that myself. Anyone know how before I enter the World of Google?! Good luck to you all in saving some money. :-)0 -
Sky are willing to supply and fit an HD box (to be used in non-HD mode) to replace a dodgy non-HD box - for free and with no change to my contract T&C but as an alternative they are not willing to offer me any discount at all ....
(What would an HD box cost them ?)
Weird or What ?0
