Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

Hi, Just asking for advice. I'm with Virgin on:
XL TV
M Phone
M Broadband (10 meg)
With the discount, this was £30 per month a year and a bit ago, but with all the little bits of price increases, it's now £38.50, and due to go to over £40 with the new price increases in April. I want to phone up to negotiate (I have no HD at the mo, for example), and wanted some amunition, so if anyone has the above package at a better price please let me know!
Many thanks.0 -
From sky customer services - in response to my request for a discount....
What I need to know is "surely the system is the same for all customer service reps ?"
and what is "point of call" ?
"Thank you for your reply. I am sorry we cannot offer the same offer to you, these offers are on point of call, also not everyone has this type of offer on their system.

I am with virgin with TV XL v+, M phone & M BB. Called to get a better deal. Tried the 'new customers are getting 1/2 price for 6 mnths' but responded with 'you were a new customer once!' In the end decided to ditch TV & go with offer of BB & Phone for £20. When I called back to take up offer they couldn't find a record of the deal! So am ditching virgin, getting freesat and using primus/plusnet for BB/TV. Gone from £42 to £16 per month + £200 for Humax freesat+ box. Looked into getting a 2nd hand Sky+ (they are very cheap on ebay) box nut apparently unless you subscribe you can't use the record function while watching another channel.0

Can someone give me the number for retentions at sky or is it known as cancellations? Thanks in advance0

Easy peasy - 25% off for another 12 months.
Actually it also works when you are straight forward and honest, like me.
Told the advisor straight away that I actually was happy with the service and I dont want to play the "I have another offer" or "Need to downgrade"-Card.
He said Thank you and said he will be straight forward and honest as well: 25% off for another 12 months.
Had a decent deal before, so "only" saving a fiver roughly.0 -

lol sounds extactly the same as where we are (except i phoned last week) when we said we'll just cancel then and get a freeview + box and bt broadband the lady said fine i'll cancel it now yep thats done, thanks bye. i'm really hoping for a magical call from cancellations dept:o0 -
I opted for the "if you are thinking of leaving us option" mainly because I would not have hesitated to leave had they not offered me what they did. And was completely honest with all my reasons... it seemed to get the best result so I am just sharing the method.

meh i also have a dodgy box, so phoned up and all they would offer me is a free hd box with 6 months half price hd subscription and then 6 months full price, or a new plus box for £29, or a free service visit.
to be honest i am appauled by those 'offers' when looking at other people have got, will be phoning up tonight if they cant offer me anything else will take them up on the free service call but will probably look at dropping my package down a little bit anyway
edit ok bit of a result, phoned up again in the evening got another loverly lady, told her my issues and that i really couldnt afford to pay out anything extra for a new box, so she had a look and offered me a free hd box if i took the 12 month subscription, and to counter act the £10.25 for the HD subscription she also gave me 25% for 12 months basically meaning i have got a new box and all the hd channels for a shocking 33 pence a month more than i am paying now so reasonably happy with thatDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
Got Reduction
Hi there thought I would share my experiences
Got through very quickly on freephone number and was soon at cancellation dept - was offered the usual HD package and explained i didnt want an HD box even with 6 mths free HD subs. as I have no need to watch Sky 3 or whatever in HD..and was thinking of getting a Freesat Recorder which would be paid for in 6mths at £ 24.50 a month !!! - Have HD via Freesat TV anyway but fine some shows overated but live TV such as sport and other events fantastic. Was offered 20% off my 24.50 subs for 12 mths but told this was a "contract" - I said 6mths but no go on that so told them I'd think about it
Rang back and spoke to cancellations ( again very quick connection) was offered to HD for free etc or the 20% extra - however this time I was offered the 20 % off for 12 mths but was informed that I could cancel at anytime as I was a long established cust and this was an offer NOT a contract - so naughty naughty to first operator
Therefore am now paying £ 18.50 which I think is about right considering what you can watch - we do love UK Gold and Sky Atlantic and Sky Arts and Sky + is still a very good ststem and we can watch and control it from another room which I don't think you could do with a HUMAX - unless anyone knows different...0
