meh i also have a dodgy box, so phoned up and all they would offer me is a free hd box with 6 months half price hd subscription and then 6 months full price, or a new plus box for £29, or a free service visit.
to be honest i am appauled by those 'offers' when looking at other people have got, will be phoning up tonight if they cant offer me anything else will take them up on the free service call but will probably look at dropping my package down a little bit anyway
edit ok bit of a result, phoned up again in the evening got another loverly lady, told her my issues and that i really couldnt afford to pay out anything extra for a new box, so she had a look and offered me a free hd box if i took the 12 month subscription, and to counter act the £10.25 for the HD subscription she also gave me 25% for 12 months basically meaning i have got a new box and all the hd channels for a shocking 33 pence a month more than i am paying now so reasonably happy with that
This is good - if you have an HD TV - I don't !!0 -
I have just phoned sky to see if they would do me an offer as we are moving house 29th March; forget it, my broadband goes up to £17.00 at the end of next month so my bill will go up to £52.75......if I cancel the TV and keep the broadband and phone my bill will go down to £35.75, cheeky beggaers charge £2.50 a month if you do not have their TV........money for old rope.
If I do that will my skyplus box still work to recieve the channels and record as it does now????? or will I need to buy a freestat box? I was not happy with the person I spoke to on the phone, I hate strangers calling me by my first name, I do not know them so have no right to assume that I answer to my christian name, she really got up my nose.
£52.75 is £633.00 a year which I cannot justify on our pensions especially as we are snowballing a CC debt just now. Sky said they will move the dish etc for free for me to retain their broadband and telephone. I pay £5 for unlimited calls, I am considering changing this as well to evening and weekend calls only. We make very few calls in the day.0 -

I am glad that I am not alone - feeling peeved at Skys attitude - and No - your PLUS box will not be able to record unless you pay a subsciption - unless there is a "software fix" available ???0 -
So would I be better buying a box that will record???? Sky will put up a new dish for free under their moving house package. Reccy's for a freestat box that will record please.0

Just put the phone down after a great discussion with the lovely chaps at Sky.
Contacted them on 0844 2 41 41 41. Option 4, then option 5.
I have all chanels, including movies, sport, Sky +HD, etc. Joined them 15 months ago via a staff offer (Tesco), and paid half price (£35 per month) for the first 12 months. This subsequently went up to £63.00 per month after 13 months, so have paid full price for 2 months.
Explained that my offer had expired, couldn't now justify paying >£60 per month for TV, and therefore was in the process of deciding when to leave and which Freesat box I would be buying. He straight away said that he could take me back to my half price offer for 6 months, and then to call back at the beginning of August to see what they could do then.
Great result, no issues, very pleasant.
So, pretty much £200 saved over the next 6 months for a 10 minute chat.
Excellent advice from all on here - thanks very much.0 -
Just rang sky to cancel HD as my free year has run out and its not really worth paying for. Offered 50% off tv subscription for 6months saving £25 per month so more than covers the hd sub. Happy with that:T0

Thanks to Madrid Man. I used the same tactic this afternoon and didnt get any fuss and Gary in the call centre was very nice and got 25% discount for 12 months which will come in very handy.0

I am sacking Sky next month and going back to freeview. I'm not interested in any discount as we mostly watch BBC1 and ITV anyway.0

Hi, need to know if I'm likely to be offered anything or if I'm deluded thinking I may get a better deal. I currently have the tv/broadband and phone package with Sky. I pay:
Sky TV: Entertainment mix £24 plus £10 extra subscription for box upstairs
Sky Broadband unlimited: £5 (this changed recently as was on 'connect' tariff)
Sky Talk: 11.25 line rental and £5 for sky talk unlimited
I'm probably on the best deal anyway but when you add on the phone calls montly bill just seems a lot (normally around £70-£80). If I phoned claiming hardship would they offer me anything? I only have sky+ but wouldnt mind sky HD. Any help would be much appreciated.0
