Its automatic. They just cancel the entitlement to see the paid for services.

I have cancelled my sky package this week. I spoke to a guy calles Steve, he was quite helpful, but would not give me a free replacement box, wanted to charge me £40. (my current one has a mind of it's own).

the box he offered was a HDbox but the HD part would be "switched off".

So, as it stands, i am on 31 days notice to cancel. Last time i did this, just before i moved, i got a call from CS offering me a deal to stay.

Here's hoping as i don't really want to lose it.

lol I'm with you mate. Fingers crossed they offer me something half way decent instead of trying to put my bill up and tell me they're doing me a favour....

    Keep the faith lol :D

  • Sky just offered me another half price deal for 12 months plus £50.00
towards bill. This would be my third half price deal in 3 years. And i cancelled one half price deal i was on back in june after 3 months and the woman at sky said there would be no more offers for throwing the last deal back in there faces.
  • After reading your article on haggling, Ive just got a brilliant deal from Virgin. I phoned up and said due to financial difficulties, I needed to save some money and i'd seen a good deal with BT. I had the basic tv package-10mb & no free weekend calls for nearly £40 mth. She offered me the same package for £32. 90. She said think about it and ring back in a couple of days with your decision. I felt it wasnt a good enough deal so I rang back 2 days later and asked if they could do it any cheaper. The operator said she could and offered me 30mb, medium tv package, new hd box, free weekend calls and a super hub all for £28.40. I was really chuffed, im so glad I didnt take their first offer. I think it all depends on who you speak to, im going to haggle all the time now lol :j
  • Just come off the phone again after needing to downgrade SKY package following a shortage of cash!
Maybe the following will assist when you ring.
The advisor informed me that the current offers to retain customers flash up on their monitors according to their account history.
Customers are seperated into up to 3 years, up to 5 years, and up to 8 years of being with SKY (I think only at their current address and any house moves are not included in the length of time)
I've had the full pack & HD approaching 4 years, however I wasn't offered any discounts for my TV to save money. I had said I wanted to cancel everything.
I was offered unlimited BB free for 6 months and then £7.50 for each of the following 6 months, and line rental for £3 a month for the full year. Total £81 for the 12 month contract.
Only condition having to remain a SKY TV customer.
My recently expired BT BB and phone contract would cost me about £340 all in for the year at the standard expensive rate and line rental!
SKY seems a relatively reasonable deal, and I've dropped my TV pack to the basic entertainment package which was my intention anyway.
I'm half expecting a call within the next few weeks trying to give me the movies and sports back at a discounted rate too.
Unfortunately I don't live in a Virgin covered area so can't use that as a bargaining tool and I'm sure their computers show that.
    Hope this helps!

Phoned up to cancel with Virgin and was offered:

    30mb broadband with free superhub
XL TV package with 2 v+ boxes
    Evening and weekend calls

for £54 a month on a new 12 month contract.

Went ahead with cancellation and received a call back offering same deal as above with one month free. Taking all into account, it works out at £49.50 a month over 12 months.

Probably could have pushed for more, but to be honest, I think what they've offered is fair. We all have to make a living, don't we.

It's taking longer than I thought it would but it'll come.

Let us know when and what they offer please.

Well it came today, better late than never.

12 months half price and £50 off our bill. Not too shabby. Just had to sign back up to the contract we were on before. Not bad considering our contract was 12 months before. So basically, sign up for the next 12 months and then rinse/repeat in 12 months time. Hopefully that'll mean full-time half price Sky.

Not sure if the 3D channels still cost to subscribe to, but we were told we would be given that for free for the 12 months as well. Now I just have to buy a 3D TV....but I have a while to think about that.... Got there in the end!

Exactly a month after your service ended. Interesting.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
