  • Afternoon all,

My first message so sorry if I don't follow the etiquette on this site!

I phoned Sky as my contract is now up and I was looking to save some money.

    My current bill is:
    TV Package £24.50
    Broadband £7.50
    Line Rental £12.50
    Anytime Calls £5.00

I used Virgin Media's Premiere Collection (£45.00 but half price for 6 months) as a haggling too.

The CS agent tried to argue Sky's Broadband is "truly unlimited", however, from experience, Virgin Media's Broadband is a HELL of a lot better than Sky's.

I said I was unhappy with the price and I can they offer me any money off.
I was put on hold for 10 minutes and was then offered 25% off my TV package or 50% off my line rental (£6.12 per month).

My Sky bill would therefore be £43.13 per month. I did point of that by moving to Virgin Media I could save around £130 per year, however, I was told that was the offer being made at this time.

I am not overly impressed with the offer so was thinking of cancelling my Sky and either waiting for a "please come back to us" letter or phone call. I am willing to lose my services for a month or so to wait for an offer.
From experience, what do you think Sky will now do? Match Virgin Media's offer or let me leave?

    Many Thanks in advance.

Sky has over 10 million subscribers. You are one. Says it all really.

Experience on here suggests those who have actually bitten the bullet and cancelled get the best offers - but some of them take a few months coming.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Cancelled today, probably won't hold my breath while I wait for the offers to come streaming in. They offered me £8 a month off and that was for the full package, HD subscription and multi-room.
  • Sorry to bother people but does anyone know whether any of the alternative numbers for Sky - as listed on saynoto0870 - still work?

It's just that I would like to use my mobile on a number included in my call package.

  • Thank you.
  • cancelled sky in mid july, best deal they could offer me was 20% off for 12 months, said no as still too expensive, cut off date passed and still no call from sky offering a better deal....however 1 month later just received the come back to sky letter, 50% off for 12 months and £50 credit on the account, got sky ent extra plus sports and movies for £26.50 a month, with the £50 credit makes it about £22.33 per month...result

    Hi

I cancelled my Sky package on 21/7/12. Only had entertainment package. I received a flyer at weekend for 25% off for 12 months.

Was wondering if you received this also and then after 1 month was up you received the 50% off for 12 months.

So im going to wait till near end off month and see if they offer me the 50% discount.

    Thanks

  • To cut a long story short(er) i have Virgin Broadband 10 meg (now 30) and Virgin Telephone talk evening and weekends for £36 a month. Did have the basic tv but managed to get rid of it when SKY called me and offered all tv except sports for £21.50 a month, so i snatched it!

Anyhoo, My 1 year on the sky deal is now up, so i have dropped to the lowest package £26 a month i think it was. My virgin contract is up in October.

I was thinking of just going with one company for the lot. I prefer sky, dont know why - both have the ability to let me record when im away from home on the iphone. Can i watch virgin tv on my iphone away from home tho?

However, reading some posts people insist to stay with sky for tv and virgin for phone and broadband, Now i know virgin is better for the broadband. so thats what gets me - what do i do...and do you think i can get a better deal with either company??If so how would i go about it? I guess im prepared to drop the tv altogether, internet however, i could kinda use, home phone . again not really needed, have my mobile..

    Any thoughts?

Virgin for phone? You're joking right? They are the most expensive. If as you say you don't need a home phone get broadband only from VM then (if in fibre optic area). Sky offer better TV, and TV with Virgin Media is a bit like paying the middle man, so you cannot expect great deals. I hate VM TV that's why it's due to be disconnected in september. Same as you I don't need home phone so it's broadband only with Virgin Media for me. And I've got Freeview now (new aerial fitted by me in our loft just over a week ago, one remote control as tv has built in HD freeview is also cool and finally I can delete crap I don't want to see). I'm also paying much less for my mobile phone too now (no contract).

I'm trying to save wherever I can now as our family is getting bigger from next year ;)
