think 20% is the standard discount, ive just been offered this when i asked to leave/reduce package - made it as easy for them as possible, said my OH is a teacher and we find it tough financially in aug/sept, what can they do to help etc etc......
better than a poke in the eye with a pointy stick!)

Hi
I cancelled my Sky package on 21/7/12. Only had entertainment package. I received a flyer at weekend for 25% off for 12 months.
Was wondering if you received this also and then after 1 month was up you received the 50% off for 12 months.
So im going to wait till near end off month and see if they offer me the 50% discount.
Thanks
Golfer
i only received the 50% off flyer, i did previously have the full sky package though so dont know if that made a difference0 -
If I cancel the HD subscription on Sky keeping the entertainment pack (only ever watch HD - BBC1, ITV etc.. on it), can I still use the record function on the box and still receive/record these 'free' HD channels?sufferinsnickerinrickrastadley0

Yes, you will still have a subscription so the Sky+ functionality will remain.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

You can still get the 'free' HD channels and I believe you keep SKY+ access as well.0

Thanks for replies.
Wish I'd known that earlier - been unnecessarily paying £10 a month for longer than I want to count back :eek:sufferinsnickerinrickrastadley0 -

If you only ever watch BBC/ITV it would be cheaper to ditch Sky altogether (provided you are out of contract) and then pay them £10 per month for the Sky+ facility. You will still get the free to air channels in HD0 -
Hi,
We just got a new flatscreen TV with freeview so I rang Sky to say I was thinking of leaving now that there is no '24' the only thing you could only get on Sky 1. They offered a reduction from £20.50 p/m to £16.40 but I got them to add a Sky+ HD box for £5 instillation but not the Sky + HD package. I am really pleased with the features of the box as I was still using video for recording!Ant:D0 -
GooliesOfFire wrote: »Virgin for phone? You're joking right? They are the most expensive. If as you say you don't need a home phone get broadband only from VM then (if in fibre optic area). Sky offer better TV, and TV with Virgin Media is a bit like paying the middle man, so you cannot expect great deals. I hate VM TV that's why it's due to be disconnected in september. Same as you I don't need home phone so it's broadband only with Virgin Media for me. And I've got Freeview now (new aerial fitted by me in our loft just over a week ago, one remote control as tv has built in HD freeview is also cool and finally I can delete crap I don't want to see). I'm also paying much less for my mobile phone too now (no contract).
I'm trying to save wherever I can now as our family is getting bigger from next year
Damn i never knew they were the most expensive! Oooops.. I could live without the phone - its just id be happier with one. Although SKY chargesomething like £12 line rental a month. Maybe if i could get them to get the privce even half way down, i could go with them.
If i stay with Virgin for the broadband, do you think they are likely to reduce the cost of it? If so what would i say to haggle as they will know no-one else can offer fibre b.band.
Finally i will just say to sky im moving to virgin and getting x,y and z (will call to get actual costs) hopefully they knock something off.
Im hoping to keep the same speed b.band (30meg) talk evening and weekends and sky with moviews for £60 or under... chances??0 -
We quit Sky TV almost a year ago.
We had another call them Sky yesterday.
After a bit of haggling the offer was half price for the year and a new HD Box with free install.
The catch was they wanted the £10 a month for the HD channels, I told them I was not interested as I'll watch the free HD channels only.
They then offered a £50 credit to my account as well !
I declined the deal as it was still going to cost me £70 more than I wanted to pay over the year.
So about £400 saved by not going back0
