Let your landlord cancel and take the hit on any cancellation notice. You will probably end up with upto a months free viewing!
I say you join up as new customer, as from my experience with virgin their rolling contract prices are silly prices. Sign up via quidco/topcashback. whichever pays you more.
I would ask for written confirmation, as any change with virgin normaly results in a 12 month contractDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0 -

Thanks - actually I'm paying already! We've been living here informally and covering the bills, now we've decided to stay so we're drawing up a tenancy agreement and transferring all the bills into my name.
Many thanks for the cashback tip - I wasn't aware of that.0 -

Yes - it took me ages to get that out of the sales person on the phone - and I did wonder if they would honour it. I've seen the 12 month contract following transfer referred to on virgin forums too.

called virgin today as i was looking into cancelling my t.v and dumbing down my broadband to 30mb.
i was on L tv and 60mb broadband and they had been extorting me out of £71 every month but i was stuck in the contract.
today i thought, its the last straw, i found a better deal on sky tv so wanted to switch my t.v to them however keep my BB with virgin but decrease the speed to 30mb.
my word, now i know why they are called retentions, she tried her hardest to get me to stay offering this that and the other. at first i didnt tell her i want to keep the broadband, i kept to my story that i am leaving and thats that. and i actually was prepared to leave so had that to my advantage.
in the end she agreed to cancel my t.v totally after i declined all of her offers, knowing she was getting desperate i asked her what is the best she can do on the broadband... unbelievably she said i could have the 60MB broadband at only £18 per month, i was like yay... but didnt show it... so i said let me think about it, kept her on hold while i made a cup of tea and popped into the garden for a smoke, (it felt nice putting them on hold for a change) when i got back to her i said ok, continue to cancel the t.v but keep the broadband at the price mentioned.
she agreed and i asked for this to be sent to me in writing. they said it will take upto 30 days for my tv to become deactivated however she booked an engineer to come and collect the set top box on 5 august.
once that is done i can buy the sky package which is better value for money as you get many free to air satelite channels and it only costs £20 per month.
so all in all i will now be paying £38 per month rather and £71 giving me a grand total saving of £33 per month which is alot over the year.
happy days, on another plus note today, i swapped my energy from british gas to edf blue price promise and i have saved just under £400 a year. happy days..0 -
Another 6 months free offer received in the post this morning, exactly the same as before, 12 month contract. Offer valid until 26th July but will ignore, I want free HD or no deal!0

Me too, we must be on the same "cycle". I'm not fussed at the moment but might take it without the 12 month minimum. Would definitely take the 75% off that a couple of people got offered in this thread.0 -

Just rang as coming to the end of my 4th 6mth 1/2 price deal and was offered 25% off for 6mths with no haggling (which I took). I am going to call back in another 4wks as my 1/2price HD subscription is due to expire and see what I can negotiate on my HD sub.Born and bred in Manchester (proud of it)

Nearly left virgin last july after 14 years with various cable companies they offered me a good deal to stay at last minute .
l bb, xl tv and anytime phone pan and line rental plus new hd box all for £30 a month.
Got a call from them last week to say my discounts have come to an end and its going up to £54 i think they said from this month so i asked what other deals i could have.
They offered me xl tv,l bb, and evenings and weekends on the phone as I've not been using it much during the day plus keep my hd box and give me a tivo for £46 a month do this sound any good .
I've given them 30 days notice and I'm due to be cut off on the 26th of july They have rang me already but couldn't offer anything different and i said I'm going to bt as wife works for them so we can have unlimited bb and bt vision free but i dont really want it as i will miss alot of discovery channels and eurosport not sure what to do next.0
