I got the same thing in the post the other day. Its basically half price for a year which seems to be the maximum 'discount' you can get.0

Hi.
I thought I share my experience.
I had been with Sky for 9 years, most recently with the following package:
- Entertainment Extra
- ESPN
- HD, with Sky+ HD box
- Unlimited Telephone
I paid 44.50 (including 12.00 for ESPN), plus 5.00 for unlimited telephone.
As we moved into an area which has more competition - Virgin, BT Fibre etc - I wanted to make sure I get the best deal and save some money.
I was comparing to Virgin which offers their maximum XL TV (which includes ESPN), and HD, for 35.50 per month. Plus 60 cash back making it 30.00 per month.
So I called Sky to say I am moving where Virgin is, and I am looking to save money.
- Sky: "Sky is always cheaper than Virgin, because they own all the TV channels"
- Me: "Not true, Virgin is 35.50 which is 10.00 cheaper. Plus I get cash back."
- Sky: "OK I give you ESPN for free, making a saving of 12.00, bringing it down to 32.50."
- Me: "Not good enough as Virgin is cheaper with cash back."
- Sky "I could offer discounts on broadband, and telephone"
- Me: "Not interested, already signed with BT for 18 months"
- Sky "Sorry, I thought I could do more after 9 years of custom"
- Me "I will cancel".
So I wanted to see whether they make a better offer as reported in this forum. The result ?
- Sky sent a survey asking why i left, and I told them the truth that I it is too expensive.
- Then Sky called my mobile 2 weeks after cancelling
-- Sky: "Why did you leave Sky ? Is there anything we could have done to keep you ?"
-- Me: "It is too expensive, I moved into an area with Virgin and they are cheaper".
-- Sky "Did we offer anything ?"
-- Me "Yes, ESPN for free, but it was still more expensive"
-- Sky "OK. yes, there are really good offers around at the moment"
So then 2 weeks later, no further calls or letters, and we were cut off a week ago.
I have now signed on with Virgin, this will be installed 9 June. The deal I got with Virgin is:
- TV XL Package + Tivo, for 35.50
- less 62 cash back from topcashback
- less 20 pounds off installation (online ordering ... not promoted on the site !)
- I also ordered the 1TB Tivo box and paid upfront, but they sent an email that I will get it for free, saving 49.95
Not bad !
Conclusion for me ?
If you want to save money, ask for it, then be ready to leave and go through with it. There are better deals out there. And if I don't like Virgin, I can go back to Sky as a new customer with great offers in a year !
Hope this helps.
The next chapter following from above. Sky contract ended 27 may and I got virgin installed early June with above deal.
I did not like virgin much. TiVo is hard to use. Standard quality is not great if not hd.
Today I received a postcard from sky offering their full World package (entertainment extra. Sports. Movies) for free for six months. Normal cost 53 pounds per month saving 318. Minimum contract 12 months so effectively 26.50 per month on average for first year. I just need to pay 10.25 for hd extra.
Pretty happy with the deal so I cancelled virgin (free as I am still in 30 day trial period) and signed back with sky.0 -
Got a call from retentions last night, the offer is:
1 TB Tivo box (free installation/activation)
30 Mb BB
L TV
L Phone (free evening/weekends)
12 month contract, 1st month free, renegotiate after that.
£38.50 a month, which was what I was paying for old package.
Probably not the best deal in the world but it'll do me for the time being and it's being done on Friday, so pretty quick all round.0 -
Currently with BT on a rolling month contract. Only have line rental and Broadband 10gb I think- Paying them £32 a month for the privelege.
I am sure there must be a better package out there to include tv? I currently watch freesat and live in a flat. Wuld Sky be the best option considering i aleady have a dish? Any advice gladly received ThanksMortgage free wannabe! No idea on date yet! £132,350 TBC
Loan paying off May 2022 £70000 -
Thats not a good deal at all these days. From BT you can get Tv, BB and all calls for £27/m inlcuding a £50 gift card as a new customer so get on the phone and see what they will do. Failng that Sky are also doing good deals - make sure you get cashback too if you go for that.0

I have been a sky customer for about 5 years (in my maiden name) don't have all the sports/movies etc, just sky+ and pay around £22 a month
Don't want the phone or broadband just the tv (no cable in our area)
We were thinking of getting HD and multiroom and decided that as there are many offers for new customers, I would cancel and hubbie (different surname to the account) would be a new user.
I cancelled and we have 2 weeks to go. Last week Quidco were doing £100 cashback and Sky were offering £100 M&S voucher...this week it has dropped to £85 cashback and £25 voucher (although I notice that HD is also half price for 6 months now too)
Now the question....do we take the offer as it stands now (Quidco says 4 days to go) or would you suggest holding off to see what comes next.
We don't watch that much live tv so if we have to watch freeview or use iplayer etc for a week or so it is no big deal
Sorry if this is like a 'when should I buy my currency' question but wondered if anyone knew what the cycles are like
many thanks0 -
Be interested to hear how you get on, Sky have offers for the first HD box open to existing users.
I can't beleive that they would not be wise to the old cancel and open a new account in the partners name scam though.
FYI There prices are going up by £1.50 for the entertainment and entertainment plus packs in September.
I may have misread your post but Sky don't do cable broadband, only ADSL or FTTC.That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
