    Hi,

Coming to the end of my 18 month contract with Virgin Media. Called in to ask what deal they could offer. Offered nothing, even when I threatened to cancel. Currently have their 100 mb broadband, M Phone and XL TV. Instead they said they would lower my package. Told them I would have to think it over. Any ideas on what next?

Dont threaten to cancel, actually cancel.
  • It is highly unlikely that your online application for a new account will complete successfully as Sky's system will not allow two live accounts at the same address (and your old account is live for another two weeks) regardless of names on the accounts. Sky could override this on a telephone application but this would then void the Quidco requirement for completion online. It may well appear to go through online but will almost certainly be rejected and you will be asked to phone Sky.

So basically until your old account has expired you would be unable to complete applications via Quidco and will have to wait for the next round of offers from Quidco after the two weeks are up.

With Sky, so I rang to tell them im cancelling the lot -

All the Channels including Movies and Sports
    Line rental
    broadband
    sky 3d channel
    multiroom
    1TB box

Been paying them about 92 quid a month for a year.

So I rang to cancel, insisted I didnt want to downgrade, and he said he could offer me 20% off my tv for a year, which would save me 11 pounds a month. I told him that was absolutely nothing and I wouldnt take it, so they've gone ahead with the cancellation.

I've now got 30 days until it's officially cancelled and swithced off, and im slightly worried that it's going to run down and i'll just lose Sky.

Will they call me with a better offer? I was hoping for half price on everything.

Doubt you will get 50% off everything but you might get a better deal. If you dont then phone up a few days before your cancellation date and tell them you've changed your mind. then repeat if you still dont get a better deal - best thing to do is know what other providers are offering to bargain with.
  • my friend whos been with virgin since the ntl/telewest days has never changed her package or queried it shes on 10mb broadband xl tv (no movies or sports etc) she does get hd channels and the evening calls and she pays 58 pounds with line rental. is this a good deal ? she can get 100mb broadband etc. she never asked or looked at it because shes in hospital that many times and didnt think to look but i just wanted to ask on her behalf. shes been on that package since she joined
  • I have Sky TV, Entertainment HD, Sports and multiroom. Currently paying £47p/m
I Rang Sky on Friday to see if they had any new deals/discounts available on my account to see if they could reduce the cost. They said no and asked if I used HD and multiroom as cancelling one of those was the only way to reduce the cost. i ended up giving 30 days notice to cancel the sports.

i called back again to see if it was just that salesperson and the 2nd person told me the same.
My contract expires on this month and he said that i may have deals available then.

i did get offered unlimited broadband and evening/weekend call inc line rental for £10p/m - i was with O2 paying £18 a month so i have switched that to Sky.

I will be waiting now to see if they actually let me cancel the sports or i will call to cancel the rest (in the hope they buy my bluff)

Guys i cancelled my virgin bb (60mb) and XL phone package with caller display and 250 mins of 0845/0870. As the price was going upto £32.40 a month.

organised sky phone and bb - 20mb (yeah right) and any time calls for £24.75 a month with free installation

In the end got a call from virgin offering two months free rental for current package. And £32.40 thereafter for ten months. I accepted. works out £27 a month.

fyi they offered my same deal...so two months free rental with 30mb bb for £26.40. Works out £22 a month.
