I recently rang Sky up and said I wanted to cancel my tv. Being in a Virgin cable area I was being offered some good deals and incentives. Sky gave me 9 months free phone line rental and £2.50 off my broadband unlimited per month for 9 months as well.

All for about 10-15 mins on the phone.

    Rob.
  • Had sky+ for well over a year now.
only an entertainment package for 24.50
i'm wanting some movie channels but don't really want the sting of the asking price.
any advice on how i can get them to shift it?
should i try the old "leaving" trick or is there another i could use?

    Many Thanks,

    Ed :D

Just phoned sky to get my account reinstated before the cut-off date tomorrow. They could not offer my any better deals than the 20% off for 12 months we were on before. Its unfair that some are offered 50% off for 12 months and not others!!

The more services - TV, Phone, BB - you have with them the more inclined they seem to call back.

Even though they already put me on a retentions deal I got another call from them today as their system still has me down as 'cancelled' as its a few days past when I would have been cut off. So they were still keen to do a deal as something is better than nothing.
  • Currently pay £64.25 a month for sky entertainment package, sports, movies, line rental and talk unlimited. Going to try to get a reduction as unemployed and full time carer and really cannot afford anymore. Is there a best time to phone up to cancel i.e. at end of the month, a particular time of the day etc or just phone up anytime.
    Thanks

Been with Sky for like 20 years and wasn't contacted when I put a cancellation request in, thankfully found a 50% off code for 12 months and applied that! Had to take off the cancellation request first before I could use the code though

Could you tell me where you found a 50% off code - I have never seen these?

    Thanks
  • When my half price friends and family deal was coming to an end I informed Sky that I would be terminating my account as I wouldn't be able to afford the full price quoted to receive their full hd package. As soon as I mentioned the word cancel, they promptly put me onto the cancellations dept who offered me the same deal I had for a further 6 months. When that deal was almost up I contacted Sky to see if I could get an extension to my current deal but was told no. I then proceeded to cancel my subscription giving them the 4weeks notice required. On the second last day of my contract coming to an end, Sky called me to see if I would stay with them on the same tariff I was about to be leaving. I accepted and got another 6 months half price on their full package. Well worth the gamble of actually giving them notice of cancellation if they refuse to budge on giving you a second discounted deal.

Just wanted to let you all know of what i saw as a great deal gained by asking Sky what my custom was worth to them! I previously paid £79 per month which is phone, largest internet package with unlimited use, tv with all packages excluding HD and multi room. I wanted to add HD and multi room but didnt really want to pay for them.

Called to enquire how long i had been with them and was told 3 years, i asked what was that worth and was instantly offered Sky Movies (which i already have) for free until July 2013. I explained what i wanted and 5 minutes later was called back and offered HD and multiroom plus Movies for free until July 2013 for £83 per month. To top it off i got free installation, £100 M&S vouchers and when the engineer came to install it he gave me an extra HD box for free!

Definately worth giving it a go!

Two days until cancellation day and still not been contacted, I'm obviously not worth keeping :D

From experience the want to call you regarding leaving is based on the level of package you had at time of cancellation. The larger the package the more priority you gain when cancelling. This is based on previous monthly spend suggesting a smaller package or slight short term monetary benefit is likely to maintain your custom for the next 12 month period. (Advised by a friend from Sky cancellations team)

    Hope this helps
