  • Ive been with sky for nearly 2 years now and have never had any discounts that I can remember. I am moving in a couple of weeks and rang to say that I was looking to move to Virgin because it was cheaper (slight white lie) and faster broadband - 60MB BB, XL tv, eve & weekend phone plus extra tivo box = normally £95 per month reduced to £72.50 for 6 months and cashback of £140 through Quidco. Sky have said that they would give me line rental for £1 for 12 months but no sign of the half price deals that others are talking about??? I did ask about them but they said that they weren't available..

Have I done all I can?

After coming to the end of a 6 month half price deal with sky I rang up and was offered nothing, so I cancelled and was cut off on the 12th of April.

I received a mail shot today through the post offering the full package (movies & sports) 6 months free with the remaining 6 months at full price on a 12 month contract, so basically half price for 12 months.

thought i would post my update. i cancelled virgin as they wouldnt respond to my emails about specifics about their so-called best deal i originally accepted (neither the complaints agent i was dealing with or the head of complaints responded to my 2 emails, they prob thought as i had agreed to stay then job done)

i ordered sky, for £20 a month, internet, good tv package, free evening and weekend calls etc.

then i had a call from virgin offering me the very best deal possible, gone from £53 to 48.90 (i also had an email to confirm it was 49 randomly, but my contract sent was different to both of them). I told them no, i was then promptly told that sky was rubbish and i could never be happy with their internet, they looked up my max speed with sky and revelled in telling me i could only have 1meg.

i told them to go away.

2 days later another call from someone else telling me that he had authority for a better deal, got it down to £47.90 - the 'very best' on offer. I again said no, asked them not to contact me as it was still over £25 more than sky.

Day after i got another call, telling me that they could now offer me £48.90 a month with £50 installation fee - the woman who offered me this was clearly an idiot, i had a bit of an argument with her, she refused to believe that a deal of £47.90 with free installation was better than her offer of £48.90 and £50 installation. She then offered to half the installation fee, at which point i had to laugh and politely ask her to go.

Another day another call from Virgin, this time i was offered
30mb internet, super hub, 500gb tivo, multiroom move old box upstairs, evenings call package for £43 a month with free installation, and this price will not go up after 3/6 months etc

I decided to take this as i would have to upgrade to fibre with sky meaning that there isnt much difference in the end.

So.. the moral of the story is, you need to actually send a complaint email to neil berkett otherwise nothing will get done. Then cancel your services, receive a million calls from people who ask you each time why you are leaving, they get annoyed when you tell them their customer service is pish, they then slag off sky and call back. Each time they take £1 off their offer, add £2 on, send emails that are random prices not logged on your account and eventually you get the deal that is much better than a new customer.

took a fair amount of patience but at least i finally have some kind of decent priced service

As far as I'm aware, we're still on a monthly rolling contract.

Maybe I should call and threaten to leave, as we don't have the TIVO and we only have 10mb line... we're paying almost £100 a month for 2 V+ boxes; HD channels on both boxes; all channels; 2 different landline numbers.

Reckon we're paying well over the odds, or probably about right for what we're getting?

I cancelled Sky 30 days ago after being a loyal customer for 13 years, I wasn't given any offers when I told them I was leaving. My package is due to be cut off today but it's still on as I type (11.20 pm)! I haven't had any offers or calls from Sky but I'm not bothered as Virgin is being installed tomorrow and I'll be saving money with that package.
  • I've been paying half price for my HD package for over 3 years. The call centre knows me so well by now that they even tell me when to call to renegotiate my package. As far as they're concerned, £28 per month from me is much better than £0 from me.

Just coming off a 12 month contract extension with Sky. A year ago they said i was a good customer and gave me a free HD box with half price everything (entertainment, sports, phone, broadband) for 6 months. I've since paid full price for 6 months.

Rang up with a tentative 'thinking of leaving and suggesting i may leave to BT'. As opposed to their usual offering me a deal to stay the woman just argued with me that BT would be a worse deal for what I get. Went on for quite a bit with her telling me I'd miss channels/services I don't use etc. She said because I had good deals of them in the past to stay I wouldn't get another one again, nor would I ever be allowed to return on a 'new customer deal'. Was advised to research my prices as apparently the BT offer I had infront of me on my laptop wasn't right.

Tried to hand in my notice but turns out my 12 month contract began from installation date, not the date they actually told me on the phone a year ago. So will try again in a couple of weeks. Hoping I had a bad sky rep on the phone (some of the things she said were certainly cutting your nose off to spite your face rather than business orientated) and I get better next time. Following her advice to research prices I found a cashback offer to join BT so hopefully that helps too
  • I'm due to be cut off by Sky on 16/6/12 and haven't been called by them yet to retain me :(

i told sky i wanted to leave, they offered me nothing to stay just told me it was 31 days notice, about 2 weeks before it was due to end i had a call asking again why i wanted to leave, just said it was too expensive,i was offered 50% discount for 12 months with no strings.
last month i added hd as it was 3 months free with m & s voucher, they billed me full price from day one,so i called to cancel and again got the hd half price for 12 months.
remember always call there bluff and you will win

We're due to be cut off from Sky at the beginning of July. Rang them up a couple of weeks back, sick of seeing all the offers available to new customers and was told, quite rudely it has to be said, that there wasn't anything they could offer us so told them we were cancelling.

Shame really as we've been customers (paying for the full package) for the last 10 years.
