My contract with Virgin is due end in just over a month, I'm looking at ringing soon to see if i can haggle it down by saying im switching to Sky. Im currently pay £80 a month for XXL Broadband, M+ TV with 500gb Tivo, M Phone and Sky Sports & Movies Collection.

What the best i should be offered? Pretty new to this stuff.
  • Yes !!! I recently came to know that Sky is offering much lower prices and various discount schemes nowadays. They also offer Free Sky+ Box, 6 Months free and many more.

Currently pay £64.25 a month for sky entertainment package, sports, movies, line rental and talk unlimited. Going to try to get a reduction as unemployed and full time carer and really cannot afford anymore. Is there a best time to phone up to cancel i.e. at end of the month, a particular time of the day etc or just phone up anytime.
    Thanks
Just phone up and cancel. You can use your existing card, box and dish to receive the free channels (e.g. pretty much what you'd get on Freeview) without a subscription.

Its just the normal SKY customer services number. I forget what option it is but there is one to select for leaving SKY.

You won't be able to record or watch existing recordings if you don't pay them £10 per month though. You also will have an EPG with a load of channels you can't actually watch (and with no way to distinguish between channels you have and channels you don't have except for trial and error). A better long-term solution if you're really giving up pay TV is Freesat+ HD. :)

True, but do you really need these features? Most things are on iPlayer, etc, if you miss them.

I went through all the channels and set all the ones we received as Favourites. You can then skip through them with the blue button.

Agreed, maybe, for a long term solution. But as the poster was unemployed I'm guessing they've got a better use for £120 than buying one of these.

Cancelled Sky TV about 8 months ago and still get letters offering half price and the odd phone call.

Can't say the family really miss it now. Kids actually get on with their homework now and don't watch nowhere near as much as they can't record anything.

No more flicking though all the channels and saying there's nothing on :rotfl:
  • I just tried via the chat thing to cancel and they didn't really help at all. I spent a good couple hours in total on this thing talking to somebody who then put me through to somebody else who would 'help me get around the cancellation process'...only to then have then have the same sort of person who kept saying that they could tailor my subscription.

That is no help when i use all the services.

I will call them tonight. As a Entertainment Extra, Sports and Movies customer paying £60.25 i'm not sure what they will offer. I am moving house in a couple weeks so will have to contact them, but i can cancel and sign up as a new customer via my partner who has never had Sky.

Looking through some of these pages there are people on the same or more tariff paying less! I really would like to get my tariff down especially as the move is costing a fortune along with the new baby!!

They will probably offer you the 20% off for a year with no tie in. We were on the same package with HD for I think £62.25. Cancelled sports, movies and hd and they still applied the 20% discount so now under £20 a month.
