Just phoned sky to 'cancel'. I've come away with multi room free for 12 mths, free install of the 2nd box, 2nd box also free, and an additional £5 a month off my current bill of £30/mth. Defintely worth the 20 min phone call!

Wow...Well done indeed :j How did you manage that please?? Did you tell them you were cancelling and moving to another company or just cancelling altogether?

I currently have my tv, phone and broadband through sky costing roughly £50 per month. I don't want to move but would obviously love to have an 2nd free additional box installed free and multiroom free for 12 months!! :)

LMAO well Virgin just rang me..........it was automated and said "This is Virgin we really wanted to speak to you but something has gone wrong, we will call you back in the next couple of days", oh dear God they can't seem to do anything!
And still it goes on! Rang Virgin to finally cancel today and they tried to keep me with a deal for everything at £71, they then tried to tell me that I haven't allowed them to rectify the problems I've had....ahem!!! And that apparently I must have a fault with the BB for it to be all over the place speed wise and for the signal to keep dropping. Told them I'd lost confidence and had enough.......so they are cutting us off of everything within 24 hours, and Sky won't be connecting us til 10th May ho hum!!

I have had Sky since 1989 and now that Mum has passed away in the last two weeks and money is tight. I thought that I may be struggling to pay a Sky subscription. I'm not really missing it. Cutting all TV is a little more difficult to get used to I'm not sure I can pay the licence fee until I see where I am financially.

I never had the movies or sport but a fairly basic package of everything else, think I paid £27 per month. The first time I phoned to cancel but went away to think about things, they offered to take £6.50 off the bill per month. The second time I went through with the cancellation they offered nothing.

I have since joined Plusnet and been given £3.50 reduction on my phone line rental...Can only use the phone evenings/weekends and I have £55 credit towards phone call costs. 6 Months free broadband and I can switch between packages and what I have saved on the phoneline I have put towards a higher allowance of use. But I also can use the net between Midnight and 8am without affecting my main package. So I might be able to watch some TV on the I player if its not live.

I hope I have not made an error going with this package. I can worry about what to do next after the year is up. And go back to watching some TV. The whole package works out in the first year approx £185.82(that's about 50p per day)what you can you do for such a small amount?

I would be lost with no internet access and with only a radio to listen to I'd go stir crazy. I hope I will always be able to use the internet. I wouldn't need a phone if it wasn't that I need it to get on line(I have sadly no friends or family to call)so once the funeral is out of the way I don't need to make calls. At a push I could probably use Skype?

And I only need a mobile to phone for a taxi now and again to get home if I have been shopping as my mobility is poor.

Just joined the site to say thanks for all the advice in this thread. My Virgin bill had recently gone up to nearly £62 and I decided the time was right to try and renegotiate.

    My current package:
TVXL, V+HD, Extra V box, 10Meg BB, Evening & Weekend Phone

The way I approached the call was to price up the 12 month cost of a similar package for a new customer. The closest (and best value) at the mo seems to be premier package with Tivo 500GB, TVXL, Extra HD box, 60Meg BB +superhub, Weekend Phone. £58.40/m with first 6 months half price. Total 12 month cost £571.80 (18 month contract).

I also, out of interest, priced up Sky and with M&S Voucher a similar package costs £550 for 12 months.

With this ammunition I basically phoned up retentions and said I wanted to be offered the equivalent of a new customer offer or I would move to Sky. I think the important thing to mention was that I wanted my 12 month cost to be circa £570. She immediately offered me the following:

Tivo 500GB (no install fee), TVXL, 30Meg BB + Superhub, Weekend phone

for £46.40/m for 12 months. Also, after 12 months this would go up by only £5 for the next 12 months but I can renegotiate if I want to at that stage. Total 12 month cost - £556.80

I accepted, but then phoned back and spoke to somebody else telling them I had just noticed new customers were getting free multiroom HD and was told I could keep my existing V+HD box for free since I had TV XL!

All around great result I think and shows it's well worth doing a bit of research and costing up beforehand. Hope this example helps some other existing customers also get a good saving. :)

Thought I'd post my success as well.

I'm with Sky on the Entertainment Extra package, with Line Rental and Unlimited Broadband. I was on the HD pack but cancelled that off as soon as I could as £10 was a lot for something we never really used. When I phoned up last night I got the bill from £40.25, down to £29 per month just by saying we couldn't really afford it and only wanted to keep the Broadband/Line rental going. I was asked a LOT of questions about what we watch, when we watch, etc. which seemed a little pointless to me, but after that the £29 offer was made and I took it. I could probably have done a bit better if I'd wanted to but going from around £50 (including HD) down to £29 is a decent saving and I'm happy with it.

My story with Sky on renewal.

Renegotiated last night as our 50% discount expires next month for Sky tv service.

Was paying £36.24 for Sky Ent extra, movies, sports, 1x multiroom and HD.

Broadband and phone were with TalkTalk (40GB allowance, line rental and evening/weekend calls) paying £17.50

    Total - £53.74(TV, BB, PHONE LINE RENTAL & EVENING & W/E CALLS)

All services are now with Sky as of next month and includes the same as above but with Unlimited BB and total to pay equates to £54.00 per month for next 12 months.

Happy with that and hopefully a better service re the Broadband as opposed to TalkTalk!

Our sky bill was coming in around £90 a month. We have the entire works including ESPN, broadband and a landline.

We phoned and try to negotiate our monthly bill down but they would only offer a 25% discount off the tv packages and this did not include the HD fee.

We decided to take a gamble and go through the cancellation process.
We were due to be cut off on the 10th May but received a call yesterday offering half price for 12 months. A good result.:T
