  • Sky didn't want to know and wouldn't offer anything.
Gave them my cancellation on the 24th of January and not heard a word from them.

Called this morning to confirm the cancellation date, still not interested and simply confirmed Sky goes off on the 24th February.

Looks like some (non) quality time with Virgin for a year or so.
i would hold off fromsigning with virgin just yet. Sky will probably get in touch in a few weeks after realising you werent bluffing and offer half price tv for 12 months. just hold your nerve.

  • I purchased 30 meg broadband from Virgin In November last year.
I believe the promise was between 30megs with an average speed 19 megs, so far In the evenings I am lucky if I get 7-9 megs.
With it being half term and the kids are home the speed is down again to 9-11 megs.
We have been promised via the television adverts that our speed will be doubled, what utter crap Mr Branson I would be more than happy if I got what I pay for 30 megs !!!!!
    :mad::mad::mad:

    PS
I have had the engineers out twice with a promise of an improvement in March they did not say which year though.

  • Phoned up to cancel Sky, they told us they couldnt offer us a better deal because we'd just come off of a 12 month half price deal, this didnt matter to us at the time as my partner was out of work so we really were going to cancel. Anyway 3 weeks after they turned it off they rang to offer us 12 months half price again!! By which time my partner was back in work so we said YES please and took all the channels for 25.50 per month! Its worth not having it for 3 weeks every 12 months if we are going to save £306 plus the money we saved not paying anything for 3 weeks. :money::j

We got cut off 5 weeks ago after being in the same situation (cancelled after coming off another half price deal). Not heard sight nor sound from Sky but tbh probably wouldn't go back even for half price.

Looks like they can play hard ball when they want though.
Hark at you going all strict :D

Hi, I need some advice if poss.

We are with sky but have been out of contract with them for a few years now. We currently have an old sky + box, entertainment plus package,( no sports or movies) and a multiroom subscription. Currently we pay £34 a month for this.
My husband rang cancellations last week to see if there were any better deals. He was offered a free hd box and sky sports for £20 a month. Being not very impressed with this offer he threatened to go to virgin (I told him not to say this!) and he said the operator was really rude and said that we couldn't even do that if we wanted to as we aren't in a virgin area. She also snottily pointed out the he had rung up cancellations last November.
I just wondered what anyone thinks would be the best plan of action for us. Do we try and ring again? The deal is pretty poor as we can't afford to pay an extra £30 a month for HD and sky sports :(

I'd say if you are not happy with your current deal or with £20 per month with a new Sky+ box you'd be better off cancelling your subscription and make use of your current Sky boxes to receive Freesat channels. Sky seem to be offering either the £20 subscription with a new Sky+ box or 25% off your subscription. You might get a 50% off deal, but looks like you need to cancel first.

Sounds like the CS rep you spoke to was very well informed. At £34 pm you are a low margin customer for Sky, so they're not likely to offer you a discount-only a freebie upgrade.
Now that Sky's subscriber base has stalled at around 10m, what they're concentrating on is upselling to existing subscribers, as that's where the profits lie.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Sky advisors have instant access to a tool which tells them whether you live in a virgin media are or not, if you don't live in a virgin media area don't threaten sky with this as they will know within seconds - just a word from the wise
