  • pretty sure i did mention about leaving (we're not in contract & we take tv/bb/line rental/HD/multiroom at a cost of £90 p/mth), perhaps i didn't make it clear enough?! or just plain unlucky..

miss_trust - does being in a cabled area make a difference at all? as we're not, they pretty much know i'm bluffing about leaving! we've been a customer for over 13 years so i guess they think that we'll stay, no matter what.

We are in the same position as you except we are in a Virgin area and did get their offer; have rung Sky twice and they are not interested. Don't really want to go the Virgin route as we have just had house decorated and don't want new cables running round the room. I suppose we will have to cancel and hope they ring us back within the 30 days.

    Hope you have better luck

We are out of contract with Sky, and in Virgin area. We have BB and telephone with Virgin. Rang up yesterday to cancel Sky as it was now £62 per month. After trying to get us to switch BB and phone to sky which would be free for 12 months, just the £62 for the TV package but only 2MB BB!! I stuck to my guns and said that we would use Freesat and Lovefilms, the evenually offerred 25% for 12 months with no new contarct and we can change, alter or cancel at anyime. Just keep trying....
  • Morning, I cancelled my Sky and received a letter stating that if there was anything they could do to give them a call. I did, was put through to an overseas operator and whilst he put me on hold to see what offers he had he managed to cut me off.
When I rang back up I asked the first operator not to transfer me overseas as I couldn't understand the one I just spoken to. She said let me see if there is anything I can do for you. She asked me what kind of offer I would like. Said I had just come out of half price and that would be lovely but see what she had to offer. She put me on hold and came back with 25% off for 12 months and I can up or downgrade as much as I like. I was happy with that, dont think I would of got anything else.

They dont seem to want to give you deals like they have previously but keep trying. XXX

I had this letter too, about 3 weeks ago, threw it in the bin....

Two weeks later I had a call one evening asking why I was leaving, told them "too expensive as my 50% offer ended"... the bloke gave me a new 50% offer for 1 year, no contract....

50% offers STILL EXIST... they are just making you work harder to get them, i.e. you have to actually give your notice and then ride it out before they come crawling back...

The call above where I got my 50% off was literally 3 days before my Sky was due to go off...

We left Sky in October (moved back to Virgin) and have had three letters/leaflets so far, the most recent 2 weeks ago (the first about three weeks after we left), offering 50% off for 12 months. If you are prepared to leave it seems that offers still become available. Whether they offer before you leave is another story - but there appear to be a few positive reports even in recent weeks of 50% off so it is still possible.

  • Hi There

Am about to move house and am after some advice for New Contracts. I was with Sky years ago, have had freeview only for last few years while renting and am now considering pitching back into the fray (with Virgin, preferably). New house is in Virigin Fibre Optic area. I need everything from scratch - TV, Broadband and am just about to switch to a new mobile phone contract. I don't need or want a landline but will have one if it makes financial sense. I am a bit confused by all the options. If anyone could give me some advise on getting the best new customer deal I would appreciate it.

I guess we are power/premium users in that we both work from home sometimes and download a lot of movies etc. So we would need fast or superfast broadband. We have just bought a new Samsung Smart TV so would like a few HD channels and, more importantly, ability to stream HD content to the TV from the broadband connection. I am happy to use streaming to the TV more than channels eg Love Film, I Player etc if that makes more sense that paying more for more packages.

I would like the Sky+/Tivo functionality if possible but don't need that much storage as am hoping can store on the network. Any adivce on best new package? Would like to go through Quidco if possible.

    Thanks

My sky is due to go off on the 15th next wednesday. When do u reckon we would start receing these mail shot or even a call for half price.
Does it matter what package you were on as we only have the ent extra pack. Do they priorise which people to call is it mainly high spenders with movies and sports?

I'm afraid I can't answer that as I think the answer varies either by luck, or by some criteria I am not aware of.

This time I had all sports and movies plus entertainment extra and was on 50% off but it was due to end... I gave my notice (as they only offered 25%) and they took it. It was due to go off on 7th Feb as I remember.. I got a letter from them about 25th Jan which just said "if there is anything we can do to change your mind, give us a call". Then I received a call on 2nd Feb that offered 50% off any package I wanted, which I took...

About three years ago though, I was just on one of the cheaper packages and gave my notice... they sent me a letter (as above) that time but can't remember if they didn't call me, or if they did call and i missed it, but anyway in the end it went off.. within 2 months (think it was actually within 3 weeks) I had a flyer asking me to come back for any package I wanted at 50% off..

BTW Atlantis, if you only have entertainment extra package, which channels do you watch most on that... you do realise that when your Sky "goes off", it will still work for a lot of the channels even when you aren't paying?

TBH, if it wasn't for the sport channels (for me) and the movie channels (for SWMBO) then I probably wouldn't bother as we only ever watch 1 to 5 beyond that.... and there is no way I would pay £50+ for movies and sports, but for £25 its just about value for money.
