Might be worth calling them if you are desparate, but in doing so they will see you are desparate and won't give you much of an offer IMHO.

They normally write within 2 or 3 months... you've only been cut off for 2 weeks.....

The truth is LGP, I am desperate!!

Sorry to be blunt, but I think you have just listed your options above:

    1. Stay as you are....

    2. Move to BT infinity....

I'd move to Infinity- where I am it's not scheduled to be installed until 2020!

    I currently have

Sky Movies - Watch atleast 4 movies a week from that so worth it
All 6 channel packs - all of my wifes, my daughters and my favourite shows are spread across the packages, so worth it for us
    Broadband
    Unlimited Calls

Pay around £75 a month for it. Phoned up today, and said I had a better offer from Virgin in the mail (and explained what was on offer). I managed to get free sky movies for 9 months (WOO!!! £16 a month for 9 months is a cracking saving), half priced line rental for 12 months, and 6 packages for the price of 4 for 12 months. Free ESPN for 6 months then half price for 6 further months.

Overall new cost per month is £50.50. I may cancel the ESPN - I only wanted it for UFC and NFL, if I like it that much and make much use of it I will keep it.

So at 6 months down the line it goes up to £55.50
3 more months down the line it goes up to £71.50
3 more months down the line it goes up to £84

I think that is a cracking deal as total saved over the year is £246 :) Chuffed or what!

  • Hello All!

I have Sky HD TV (the basic package with no sports or movies), Sky Broadband Unlimited and Sky Talk freetime weekend and evenings with Sky line rental also.

I called up Sky customer services and pressed the various numbers to take me through to the cancellations department to "threaten" to leave. I claimed that I was not happy with how much I was paying and said that I could get a like for like packages cheaper elsewhere such as virgin, or even go freeview or freesat. They instantly gave me free line rental for 12 months!! Thats a saving of £12.25 a month (£147 a year!).

I also claimed my sky HD box was on the blink and wondered if they could send me a new one free of charge. They were unable to do that, however the gentlemen on the phone managed to get a work around for me by giving me sky multi-room free for 12 months which obviously comes with a new box. When you take out multi-room, you have a 12 month contract with sky (of which I got free) but then you can cancel if you not willing to carry it on. There is only one off initial cost of £5 that you have to pay up front for the engineer to come out and fit the mulit-room. However, that is a saving of 10.25 per month (£123 a year) plus a new sky HD box, and not forgetting sky TV in the bedroom!

Its really worth giving them a call and trying your luck. Last year I managed to get my entire bill half price for 6 months! I will be calling up again in 12 months to try get more stuff out of them!

Just offered a cracking deal by a dear old Scottish woman in retentions:

Out of contract and was paying £31/month for:

    Full Entertainment Package
    Sky Sports 1

I gave 31 days notice to cancel 2 weeks ago, and have since completed the online leaving questionnaire. I was due to leave on 13th Feb but received a call tonight...

Now, I basically have the following for the next 12 months:

    Full Entertainment Package
    Full Sky Sports Package
    Sky HD Subscription
    Multiroom Subscription
    2x New HD boxes

I have been given multiroom for £2.50/month, and then the whole package has been given 50% discount for 12 months. Now paying £33.78/month :j

Now I just need to work out how I'm going to get the multiroom box plugged into my telephone line :o (Through the living room/dining room/past kitchen/through patio doors into conservatory). Is there no such thing as a telephone extender like the ethernet extenders :D

  • UPDATE, UPDATE, UPDATE...

What did I say peeps... my sky was due to be cut off in three days. Tonight I got a call from them to ask why I am leaving and "have I had bad service from them"

I was very friendly but to the point and said "I was on a 50% discount which was finishing so now I can't afford it"

Straight away he said he could offer me another year (not 6 months this time) of half price on any package I wanted. So now I have Entertainment Extra with movies and sports for £24.50 a month with no contract. Very happy with that, so is the wife as she'll be starting maternity leave in July so she will have movies to watch all day haha.

Please people, believe me when I say, if you aren't happy paying rip off Sky full prices, give them notice to leave. I am almost certain for the vast majority of people they will ring you before you get cut off, or they will send you a letter shortly after asking you to come back for half price.

The risk of them not begging you to come back, is well worth the reward of getting 50% discount on your TV. BE STRONG GUYS!!! :)

    Thanks for that.
    Sounds a good deal too!
Did you have to threaten to cancel Sky, or did they give you their offer straight away?
