the only way for customers in contract to reduce costs is to downgrade package, you can't cancel as you're in contract so there will be no retention offers on the system on your account, used to work for them so dealt with this quite a lot but please don't hold it against me

My GF rang up 6/7 months ago whilst we were in contract & got us a £5 by saying we were really struggling. Not a huge amount, but better than nothing!
  • Update to my post of Dec 30th where I cancelled Sky, awaiting another discount offer. Well, they phoned me yesterday (7 days before the end of the notice period) and offered another 50% off for 12 months with no new contract - happy days all round and special thanks to gratiss for the reassuring comments re the workings of Sky.:money:

    Regards downshifter98

We were in a very similar position. On the 29th December, we gave notice to cancel and I booked a reminder on my phone to alert me a day before we would be cut off. Made some cursory inquiries on a Freesat Box at Richer Sounds (as my partner still wanted the recording function).

On the 21st January 'surprisingly' received a phone call from Sky asking why we were leaving. I told them directly that we thought our current package was too expensive and were planning to buy a Freesat Recorder. We too were then offered 50% off our package for 12 months.

So, our original cost was £62.25per month (HD, Sports, Movies) and our current cost is now £26 (as we removed the HD channels as well).

    Thank you very much Sky!!

I think the current ploy is offer 25% on first discussion with Sky and if not accepted, offer 50% when it is close to the deadline for cut off. As another poster pointed out, its like a game of poker, you just need to hold your nerve longer than they do....

I've just called as I have an issue with my sky+ box and wanted sky+ hd.
The best they could offer me was hd+ box free but i'd have to pay for the subscription.

I ve told them I will think about it - I really wanted to reduce my monthly outgoings but it doesn't appear they want to play ball.
  • I called Sky yesterday to see if I could haggle myself a deal. I have EVERYTHING with Sky..
    - Basic TV package,
    - Unlimted UK landline calls 24/7,
    - Unlimited broadband
    - Landline rental (currently £15 alone with BT)

Had a lovely chat with a lady in a Scottish call centre who managed to cut my monthy bill from £55 to £37 - saving over £200 a year!

    :T YaY for saving money.

the way they work is one offer applied during call, so you could have a new box, or discount not both
  • Hi, was wondering if anybody could give me some advise please,

I just spoke to sky as my six months half price tv deal ends on the 26th and will go back to £84 per month. As i have phoned too early nothing is showing on the screen for a further discount.

However, i have been offered unlimited broadband for £7.50 per month with six months free and a years free line rental.

I am interested in the broadband offer but am unsure whether to wait until after the 26th and try and do a deal for tv as well or take the offer now and then try for tv offer at a later date.

Can anybody tell me which would be better please.

I'm in exactly the same situation my half price deal runs out today and I called them yesterday, so they advised me to call tomorow when they would be almost certainly able to give me a deal but in the meantime the man on the phone offered me 12 months free line rental and 12 months free broadband which I am serously thinking about accepting.
It will save us around £30 off our BT bill, not sure they will be able to give us a discount on our tv package though if we accept the discount on the broadband and line rental though.

Have full package + HD, phone/BB. Coming in at roughly £100 a month now.

Was initially on a 50% off deal for 1st year (was paying circa £55pm), got it extended by 6 months after 1st year went.

Called a couple of months ago to do it again, but the guy said the deal was still live so call back in a week or so and they'll see what they can do.

Anyway, just called thru to cancellations to leave - result is, termination set up for 27th February.

    Doh.
  • I am a little unhappy with sky, My internet has gone down & I have to pay £35 for a new router:mad:, They have had my monies for many years (around 50-60 a month) and due to sky's equipment not working I the customer have to pay.

I am looking at my options as I have have been out of contract with them for years and will take my business elsewhere if possible.

Just tried to haggle with Virgin for a better deal for my broadband (currently L / £21mth) to see if they would come down to BT infinity (£18/mth for 24Mb). They weren't having any of it and refused to budge. Even tried to sell me a more expensive product to get the same speed as BT offered. Very frustrated; not sure what to do next.

Gave up on Virginmedia - no negotiation/wiggle room, so said so sorry bye. Thye've been very nice, but haven't tried at all to get me back. Arranged to move to BT infinity; coming on 22nd Feb, update after that

It's not Sky's equipment, it's yours. The router is free at the time of install, not rented as part of your package, and therefore under an extended warranty.
Similarly with your sat dish-if that fails after the 12m warranty, then it has to be fixed at your cost.
Tell retentions you are leaving and they will almost certainly give you a replacement free.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
