He is on Virgin Media (or so I would assume with a TiVo box.
I think they're with sky and just threatened them to move to Virgin because of the 'to the occupier' flyer that came to them.
  • Anyone know if there any tricks for getting a good deal as a new customer?

Do I need to phone up or is it a case of the best deal on the website is the best deal for new customers and the discounts only start once you have been a customer for a while?

We tried that, gave them details of the Virgin offer and they weren't interested. They said the only offer for us was 9 months free line rental. The retentions person was very polite but said that was it.

Did it at my mums house - Got 25% off her TV bill for 6 months and £10 off her broadband bill every month...saving a total of £26 a month for 6 months, then after that its just £10 a month, but still better than a kick to the face :)

  • After my post above about getting my TV package for half price, I rang them to ask about moving my broadband and phone to them too.

I currently pay £6.25 a month for O2 broadband and £7.99 a month for line rental from Primus Saver.

Sky offered 6 months free (or 12 months half price) broadband but wouldn't budge at all on the phone line rental. I think £12.25 a month line rental is ridiculous!!! Although their constant justification was "it is comparable / cheaper than Virgin / BT / Talk Talk..."

Anyway in the end I found £100 cashback through Topcashback (ended yesterday though) for existing Sky customers taking phone / broadband so I did get a bargain.... though if it was left to the sky customer service people on the phone, I wouldn't have ended up moving...

The thing that was bothering me was all these people getting offered 6 / 9 / 12 months free line rental....:mad::mad:

I too am looking for new customer tips please, deals seem better for existing customers, not that that's a bad thing, but then nothing to barter with if not on one package already!
  • Rang up and went through to retentions. Got 25% off for 6 months which is not too bad. Will call after that to see what else I can get.

Not bad for 10 mins work :T
  • Hi. I've got Sky TV, line rental, sky Talk and the (free) broadband package. With odd calls it generally comes to £38/m.

I rang last week and managed to get £12.25/m off for 12 months - effectively free line rental.

I appreciate it's not as much as others have got on here but it was better than nothing.

However, my partner, who has Sky TV, line rental, Sky Talk, and the top spec broadband, has tried calling twice and got nowhere, the operator was totally disinterested and not going to offer a penny in discount.

How can it be so random?
I am employed as a manager in a financial services institution. My views are entirely my own.

It all depends on who you get, I thought the lady I dealt with on both occassions was lovely and did her best to help me out :)
