im hoping for a call soon to let me know that VM are offering me "massive" discounts to keep my custom!! :rotfl:
do you think i will have to do another 12month contract if i do get offered discounts?C'mon you Canaries!!0 -
Don't hold your breath on them offering you a better deal.
I have been on the VIP 50 deal for a year and am now out of contract...rententions did phone me back and ask why I am leaving, get them all the waffle about being expensive etc..
They said no offers available to me...because I'm on a good deal already.
So it all gets disconnected this Friday.

The only offer for me was to cancel the £4.50 price rise, quoting the same thing that i'm already on a good deal. Goodbye to my £110+ a month Virgin.0 -
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

VIP50 with another V+ box. Most people probably spend more on going out for a night out so not so bad.
Do you get your moneys worth out of the unlimited daytime calls or the 50meg broadband?
I suppose if you do then as you say, it is less than a night out for some people - its a night out for me and the wife but that would be a meal and drinksand that sort of night out is only once every two or three months as we couldn't afford it regularly... oh the high life I lead....
Anyway as a comparison to give you an idea, this is what I currently have with Sky:
-TV = Entertainment Extra + all sports and all movies (no HD and officially no multiroom either *ahem*) = £24.50 a month (half price, I would never pay full price and would cancel if it wasn't half price)
- Unlimited broadband (admittedly only 4 or 5 meg compared to your 50meg but to be honest i've never felt that it has been too slow for me.
- Telephone line = £12.25 a month. I only have this because I have to to get their broadband, woulc cancel in a heartbeat if there was a way around it.
- My sky box was just a standard old white Sky+ box but I purchased a Sky+HD box from Cash Converters for £40 and now get all of the free HD channels.
- On top of the above, I also got £100 cashback when I took phone and broadband so that effectively made the phone line £3.92 a month.
So effectively I am paying £35.92 a month after cashback for what I see is comparable to your package except:
- slower broadband (but mine is fast enough for me, can only see you'd need 50mb if you do loads of downloads and need them mega fast)
- No paid for HD channels, doesn't bother me and I get all the free ones.
- no free daytime calls, only weekend and evening but i'm at work all day so again not an issue to me.
(NB. My half price TV is a result of being a customer and threatening to leave, you wouldn't be able to get that to start but lots of cashback deals about to get close)
Hope this helps.A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A

I definately need unlimited calls as there are 2 women in the house so phone is constantly used. The broadband I could get by with 10-20 meg but it is cheaper with VIP50. I thinks it time to try Sky out for a year as Virgin ain't budging on the price.0

The Sky deals are not on at the moment, I have been with Sky for about 8 years and have usually managed a discount, but this time they wouldn't budge just pushing Broadband, even after trying all the usual methods. So as from 27th Feb. Sky is history, my original plan was to buy an HD Freesat box which pauses/records etc, but I got a letter from BT at £4 a month, includes box which does everything that Sky does, it costs a £40 connection fee, so I thought why not?. If it looks OK I am going to upgrade straight away by paying £12 month, for that you get all the demand stuff free plus ITV and BBC Iplayer which doesn't come off your broadband allowance.
You can add Sky Sports 1&2 for £18/month and just have a month at a time, also for a one off £10 you get ESPN. It will be hard to wean myself off Sky, especially at xmas time but I am determined to see it through.
Any advice on BT Vision would be appreciated.0 -
Hi, I'm in a slightly different position to many on here in that I want to add Sports to my Sky package for the F1 and footie. Only got Entertainment Extra on an old Sky+ box at the mo so ideally I'd like a HD box and HD too but can't really justify an extra £30 a month. Currently have phone with BT and Sky not in my exchange for BB (so can't go there) but is it worth 'enquiring' that if I add Sport and the phone that they give me HD for free or should I go down the cancellation route ? Would even a threat that I might cancel "as I've been doing some sums" do the trick or is it a non-starter ?
Rather not go to Virgin unless I have to so any suggestions on my best tactic as I'm an upgrader !
Cheers all.0
