  • Sky have offered me £40.75/mth indefinitely to include line rental (basic phone package), basic broadband and tv including sky sports. No HD or multiroom or anything, and I don't really use the phone so I guess I'm not a massively valuable customer. It's basically free line rental.

    Is that a reasonable deal?
  • Basic broadband is free anyway... so £40.75 minus line rental @ £12.25(?) = £28.50 for whatever TV you get....

All I can compare it to is my own package which is £44.25 with unlimited broadband (£7.50) and Movies included in the TV package too.... oh and I got £100 cashcback for adding the broadband and phone too but exclude that as it isn't available to you if you already have these services.

My TV package on its own (included above) is Entertainment Extra with sports and movies (no HD or multi-room) is £24.50 a month.

Please help. Where can I go from here. I've ended up paying more per month for less channels and stuck on a 12 month contract.

    Thanks
The Direct.Gov.UK website has some information about your consumer rights and there's a contact page with telephone numbers for Consumer Direct, which is a government run advisory service. There is also a Communications ombudsman that may be able to help. Their website is at http://www.ombudsman-services.org/communications.html Sounds to me that the onus should be on Sky to prove that they you understand and agree to what you have signed up to. By law, they must also send you written confirmation of what you have agreed to in this new contract.

No, I'm paying £40.75 after the discount. It would be £53 otherwise...(the Sky Sports I get is a big proportion of that)

    I understood that.... I thought that's what I said?

Just phoned virginmedia to see if i could get my bill reduced from the £34 that i normally pay per month, especially after seeing the tv advert where they are offering upto 30mb broadband and telephone for £5 for the first 3 months and then £18.50 thereafter. what does my £34 get me, 10mb broadband which gets throttled to 2mb most of the time, telephone line and a addon package which is £8.99 for unlimited calls, oh and i got a loyalty discount of £5?. now after speaking to them on the phone, i got told my broadband and phoneline comes in at £30 a month + £3 for the addon package instead of £8.99, and on top of that i'm getting a discount of £5 for the loyalty.
so according to their figures my bill would be more like £45 a month if the loyalty discount was removed and the discount for the addon.

I got told i could have the 30mb broadband but it would cost me a further £35 a month ontop of what i'm currently paying, i replied considering my BB will be going to 20mb sometime in March/April for free that would be stupid.
so she put me on hold to speak with the discount department to see if i could get a reduction, it was a bad connection, could hardly hear what she was saying half the time, and whilst the music was playing the connection got cut.
so i'm waiting now to see if they phone me back.

just remembered the women i spoke to on the phone said about the tv advert for the £5 per month for the first 3 months with a price of £18.50 thereafter said that there was an addition £13 for the phone line to go on top of that. funny how the advert didnt mention it.
I feel like i'm being totally ripped off,
when we originally signed up to virgin my phone line and broadband was £20, the addon pack was £7.99, and over the years we have had letters telling the price is going up a £1 here and a £1 there, when we got to £34.99 bills i phoned up and got the loyalty discount of £5 and my next bill was £29.99 but the bills immediately after that went back upto £34-35. yet we started using the phone less.
  • Hi, ive been with sky for almost 12 months now, have the big bundle (Sky HD+, Broadband Unlimited and the calls package) which is currently costing me just under £75.

Rang them yesterday to "cancel" and was offered a deal.

Broadband down from £7.50pm to £2.50 for 9months.
Free line rental for 9months and then £12 after.

Also changed from the £5pm calls package to the free one (told the missus to ring after 7pm! :D )

So, naturally, my next question was "can we do anything to bring the cost of my tv package down". Had a chat and ive kept all my channels. He then said he can only give me one offer per call...

Does this mean i can ring back today to see if i can get my TV package reduced for "x" months?

Pretty happy so far so not too upset if i cant :p
  • hi, i called virgin media today to "cancel" my account in the hope of some good discounts.

all i got was to be told that in april my bill would go up  (apparently all VM customers are going to get charged more) and the best deal they could give me was to keep my price at the same price as i already have "lots of discounts on my account".
also they tried to flog me L phone with no discount.

i had read up that if you cancel they call you back before your 30 days to try and keep your custom.

    is this true?

has anyone done this before? when i can expect a call and do they offer much discount?
    HELP PLEASE! :)

My bill was due to increase by £4.85 a month, so called VM cancellations today. They did offer to give me a £4 a month discount on the new total, but I nicely asked to continue with the termination.
The very nice lady did say that she had 'managed' to get all cancellation fees waived for me (I didn't point out that there shouldn't be any), so now I wait and hold my nerve.
    C'mon you Canaries!!
