Hi been reading as many of the pages as I could its quite confusing for a novice to tv packages and I am lost a little. I

I hope some experienced VM could help a TV package virgin.

I have freeview only never had sky or virgin and want after a few haggles with bills and cancelling a couple of DD's and adding up existing telephone/broadband costs realise I may be able to stretch to Virgin if I can get a great deal.

So for anybody who has recently done this or knows the ropes, what can I expect to pay I would like movies not sport, would like to know what to ask for need a good bb and would ideally like kids to have channels in rooms but can live without?
I do not understand about new boxes and how to haggle for free connection.

Would I be best to be armed with a Sky offer or is it not necessary?

Just looking for tips advice and any cold hard facts and most of all an average price guide and whats the most I should pay?

If you look at the advertised prices for individual Virgin packages they do not add up and I think trading standards should be informed. Does anyone else understand how they come to their final bills????

Sorry spelling error meant to say we are currently on the extertainment extra pack using a normal sky hd box.

Anyway cheers for the advice. I'm having second thoughts now having to pay for the hd mix does not make it worth while. Only problem is the 1TB box's on ebay are all going for over £150.

Decisions decision dont really know what to do?????

I have the full Sky tv deal for £52 p/m and the broadband = sky talk for £7.50. I wanted to upgrade to HD so contacted them for a deal but the only thing on offer was the free HD box. The new HD package was also an extra £10.25 p/m + £60 installation. I also pay BT £13.90 p/m line rental. This would take my package up to roughly £84 p/m.
I contacted Virgin but the same package with them worked out around £99, which doesn't give me much bartering power with Sky!
Is my current Sky deal OK or does anyone think I could do much better either with Sky or elsewhere?

Rang earlier and manged to get

Sky+hd 1TB box for £49,
Free install
Free multiroom for 1 year,
Unfortunately had to take the hd mix at £10.25.

Do u reckon we would be able to cancel the hd mix after a couple of months as we dont even have a hd tv.
The reason we wanted the 1TB box is because of the large hard drive to record stuff.

In my experience, you wouldn't be able to cancel the HD after a couple of months as that is part of the contract along with the mutli room subscription, contract would be for 12 months

Sky's line rental is slightly cheaper at £12.25 per month, if you threaten to leave, the cancellations team may offer you discount on TV package - usually 25% for 6 or 12 months but if you bring line rental over you may get deal on Line rental, broadband and calls package - they had 9 months free deal going at one point for people wanting to cancel full account, no guarantee that offer will be made but worth trying?

may be useful to check out what sky is offering new customers so that you have that info to hand to haggle with VM

Hi yes I need to do that but before I do, I just wondered if somebody had recently joined up and knew if they cut opening offers to gain a customer as well as retain existing. Also I want to go through a cashback site so ringing them up will lose me that option. Thanks for the reply.

mainly, the best offers for new sky customers are normally found through the website, they have offers online that are sometimes not on the system
