Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

I called Sky today as my parents 6 month deal of cheaper Sky Sports had expired. Talked to 3 different advisors and none initially were prepared to offer me anything. The only discounts were available for those taking full Sky packages such as tv/calls/broadband. So as advised by many i called their bluff and told them to remove Sky Sports. Immediately the advisor went away to "speak to his supervisor" and came back and the discount was re-applied for another 6 months. So the best advice is call their bluff and cancel.....after all you have 31 days to change your mind before the package is cancelled.0

Rang earlier and manged to get
Sky+hd 1TB box for £49,
Free install
Free multiroom for 1 year,
Unfortunately had to take the hd mix at £10.25.
Do u reckon we would be able to cancel the hd mix after a couple of months as we dont even have a hd tv.
The reason we wanted the 1TB box is because of the large hard drive to record stuff.
Hi,
Maybe this could be of some help:
I rang Sky yesterday and told them that I wanted a HD box and would like to cancel my Sky TV because a VM rep was calling house to house and they offered me 6months free subscription with a 6months half price line rental for the remainder of the 12months.
The Sky representative said she can give the HD (standard box) for free with a monthly fee of £5.25 for 12months AND with a 25% discount for 12months off Sky TV bill ONLY. However, there would be a £15 installation charge.
But I also pushed for the multiroom having read certain comments on MSE and said that I wish to use my existing Sky+ box in another room. I also mentioned that a friend of mine got 12months free multiroom. So in the end, we have:
Sky HD Box (Standard)
Half Price HD subscription: £5.25 (normally £10.25)
Free multiroom Subscription (normally £10.50, I think it was)
Free setup and installation (normally £15)
25% off Sky TV Bill ONLY.
I think that is a reasonable offer having been paying £25 for Sky TV with a Sky+ box for over a year. But now got more things for less.
Also, to get a 1TB HD box would cost £49 (instead of the usual £249) - I tried getting this but nothing could be done to the one off cost of the 1TB box.
hope this helps someone.0 -

The reason my deal is different to yours is because they're giving me the 1TB box for £49 and not £249. Thats the reason they are wanting to charge me for the HD mix0 -

Hey,
Sorry. I meant to say £49, not £249. The person on the phone did say the box would cost £49 and she couldnt do anything other than that.

Well, I have asked for my Virgin Media to be cancelled, on the hope they will think I am serious and offer me a discount. So far, after two weeks, there has been nothing. Has anyone else got anything from them? The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0

I currently pay £33 per month to VM for TV M, B band L, Phone L, phone line rental and a V+box.
I have spoken to Sky regarding Quidcos £165 cashback offer for switching bband, TV and phone over to Sky and spoke to a very helpful person who has confirmed :
1. The offer is applicable for VM customers.
2. For £36-00 per month, you get unlimited bband, TV Entertainment package, phone line rental, a free Sky+ box, free evening/weekend calls, free bband/dish/Sky+ box installation and a free WIFI router.
3. There will be a £10 installation cost for a new PSTN phone line.
4. Contract is for 12 months. After that the monthly cost inceases to £39-75.
5. With the £165 Quidco cash back, this means that in effect the monthly cost will be £23-08 for the first 12 months.
6. If I factor in the purchase price and installation costs of a freesat box and dish, it is even a better deal.
I spoke to VM to see if they could beat this and the best offer was a free upgrade to TV M+ for the same cost.
So I will be off to Sky very soon. After 12 months, I will keep the dish and the Sky+ box for freesat.

I negotiated half price package for six months last March, I think it was a 12 month agreement but now to sure how to check. Is it worth try to haggle a discount now or wait until March when twelve months has passed ?

they done this to me also - I asked to cancel and they just ignored me.
4 months later I'm still with them
Sky deals look too good to miss - I'll be calling VM again tonight to cancel0 -

That looks to be a great deal and they have offered me a similar deal but not quite as good... yet!
One question before I tell you were I am, do you have the full package, sports plus movies, and is the 25% off that?
We have just built and extension and put a new 3D HD TV in a new living room and I have been seriously looking at switching to BT Vision, which works out cheaper but of course is not as good when it comes to channels etc.
My current Sky deal is as follows -
Old White Sky + Box
Full Sky TV - £52
Free Evening & Weekend Call
Unlimited Broadband - £7.50
Total - £59.50
I of course I want HD & Multi-room (which gives me free install of the new HD Box as opposed to paying) and still keep the full package
They have offered -
Full Sky TV - £52
Half price HD for 12 months - £5.25
Half price Multi-room for 12 months -£5.25
Free install - as I said above
Free evening & weekend calls
Unlimited Broadband - £7.50
Total - £70
The line rental is not included in the above numbers because my line rental is with BT at the moment, but If I switch to Sky I can get the same advance payment deal at £10 per month.
So, they way I read this is is that you are getting the following deal
Sky TV - £52 (?) - 25% = £39?
Half price HD for 12 months - £5.25
Free Multi-room for 12 months
Free install
Total = £44.25?
That is great and better than my current deal!!!
Also, not sure if you are Sky phone/broadband customer, but as they are not offering me anything of these anyway, they would stay as follows.
Free evening & weekend calls
Unlimited Broadband - £7.50
Total including this = £51.75
The BT deal including 4GB broadband is £48.70 and not multiroom, so if I could get the same deal I would stay with Sky!
Ok, I want this deal if I have understood this correctly!!!
So, any suggestions? Do I just call them again and tell them I have seen this on MSE or do I not say that and just say this is the deal I want or I am leaving (and I will if I can't a deal as good as this), of do I just start the leaving process and wait for them to contact me?
Thanks in advance.0 -
I've seen the SKY deal advertised as 12 months half price broadband, but can only see the 6 month offer online??0
