One question before I tell you were I am, do you have the full package, sports plus movies, and is the 25% off that?
We have just built and extension and put a new 3D HD TV in a new living room and I have been seriously looking at switching to BT Vision, which works out cheaper but of course is not as good when it comes to channels etc.
My current Sky deal is as follows -
Old White Sky + Box
Full Sky TV - £52
Free Evening & Weekend Call
Unlimited Broadband - £7.50
Total - £59.50
I of course I want HD & Multi-room (which gives me free install of the new HD Box as opposed to paying) and still keep the full package
They have offered -
Full Sky TV - £52
Half price HD for 12 months - £5.25
Half price Multi-room for 12 months -£5.25
Free install - as I said above
Free evening & weekend calls
Unlimited Broadband - £7.50
Total - £70
The line rental is not included in the above numbers because my line rental is with BT at the moment, but If I switch to Sky I can get the same advance payment deal at £10 per month.
So, they way I read this is is that you are getting the following deal
Sky TV - £52 (?) - 25% = £39?
Half price HD for 12 months - £5.25
Free Multi-room for 12 months
Free install
Total = £44.25?
That is great and better than my current deal!!!
Also, not sure if you are Sky phone/broadband customer, but as they are not offering me anything of these anyway, they would stay as follows.
Free evening & weekend calls
Unlimited Broadband - £7.50
Total including this = £51.75
The BT deal including 4GB broadband is £48.70 and not multiroom, so if I could get the same deal I would stay with Sky!
Ok, I want this deal if I have understood this correctly!!!
So, any suggestions? Do I just call them again and tell them I have seen this on MSE or do I not say that and just say this is the deal I want or I am leaving (and I will if I can't a deal as good as this), of do I just start the leaving process and wait for them to contact me?
Thanks in advance.
Hey Armadilo,
Congrats on your new extension, so the TV is a must!
As for my CURRENt package, we are getting the following:
Sky TV: £25
No multiroom
B-band: £15
No phone or line rental, as this is with BT.
And after phoning into Sky, this is the following we have:
Sky TV: £18.87 (after the 25% discount)
Multiroom: FREE (no subs fee of the normal £10.50)
Half price HD subs: £5.25 (normally £10.50)
B-band: same, although the agent was telling me Sky have a new Unlimited Package. I am on the unlimited package but this new package is apparently £2.50 cheaper from what I understood. However, as I am with BT for phone + line rental, I said I will check with BT and move to Sky later on if our contract with BT is up. And that will also bring down the cost of the B-band.
Also, in answer to your question, yes the 25% off the Sky TV is for 12-months and if I decide to add Sky Movies and/or Sky Sports, the 25% discount will also be applied to these packages.
I would say phone in again and ask for the free multiroom. All I said was my best friend got free multiroom, and she said she'll check what she can do, and we got it in the end. Which also meant that the installation is free too.
BTW, having HD for the first time, is it compulsory to enter into a 12-months contract? This is what I was told, but Im not sure if this is the case....if anyone could comment, that would be much appreciated.
I hope that helped answer your questions?

Thanks Jay, I think does pretty much answer my questions yes.
You are clearly paying the higher rate for broadband from Sky because your calls and line rental is with BT but interestingly I only have my calls with Sky and not my line rental at the moment because I moved my phone and broadband from Talk Talk about three years ago. That meant I had to have a BT line rental for 12 months after the switch to avoid a huge great big charge from BT to move back, and Sky told me I could use them for calls and get the unlimited broadband for £5 (as it was then) still anyway and I could move line rental later, which I still haven't done, but will be doing so now. I would think, even with the new deal you have just got, you should look to switch your calls and line rental to Sky (if and when you are out of contract with BT) which would bring the line rental down to £12.25 from BT's £14.60 a month and you could then get your unlimited broadband at £7.50 a month.
In relation to the 12 month contract if signing up for Sky HD, then I understand that is correct and you (and I) would go back into a 12 month contract.
However, as the guy I spoke to from Sky earlier said, you have got a 12 month reduction (mine not as good as your at the minute)... but in 12 months you will be also out of contract again and free to look around again for a better deal!!! He was using this as a tactic to sign me up there and then for the deal he offered me... but of course his point is valid and I think that now I have understood that I have the ability to re-negotiate every 12 months or so, that is what I will do.
Ok, so I am going to call them and tell the a friend got this deal and try and get exactly the same deal as you (25% off the TV for 12 months, £5.25 for HD and free multi-room for 12 months) and see what they say!
I will let you know!0 -

Hey,
You're welcome!
And the lady too said that my costings would go down to £7.50 if I move over to the Sky talk package, which might be beneficial, with the line rental being with Sky too. But I will definitely be checking the contract with BT (and I have a feeling the 12months period is up by now).
The lady too said that after the 12months, I can change the package as I wish. But I/(WE) will have to give them one months notice after which the HD fee and multiroom fee will go back to the normal rate. And the 25% off Sky TV will not be applied after that, so bear that in mind!
BTW, before phoning the cancellations - maybe you can give the upgrades team a call? The reason why I say this is that only the upgrades team can give offers on the Sky/Sports packages. I was asking the agent I spoke to regarding any offers but they can only give certain offers to retain customers by making a better value for money package on what they have currently. Only upgrades can do the other offers....saying that, why not try and get them reduced too? And then call the cancellations to get the offer like myself. I haven't done it because we hardly watch any movies and/or sports.
But do keep me posted what happens to you by PM or on here!

Ive spoke to Sky last week - the usual 'pretend im leaving because its too expensive' and got a fantastic 25% off for 12 months - means i get sports for free for a year!
I would recommend giving them a call and just say youre leaving because its too expensive.
I was only on the phone for 5 minutes as well.
Shockshake,
Thanks for the post - good deal.
Have you got a phone number to call for that ?

Well, just finished on the phone to Sky... and got exactly the same deal as you!
I just went straight for it and said that my mate Jayhas told me he has got this deal and I would like the same deal or I will be leaving Sky. This was not an idle threat though, had I not got the deal I wanted I would have truly left to switch to BT. I am always really friendly with these guys and I am never confrontational but I also think he knew I was not bluffing!
So, the deal I got is as follows and this is for the full 12 months on a new 12 month contract (just because of the HD upgrade, as we thought Jay) -
Sky TV (Full package) 25% discount = £52 - 25% = £39
Sky HD, half price = £5.12
Multiroom & installation = Free
New HD Box was free or £49 for the 1TB, so I decided on the 1TB box & made a one off payment of £49
Unlimited Broadband (as previous) = £7.50
Free evening & weekend calls
So, total for whole package is now £51.62 per month for 12 months!!!
I also switched in my phone line rental to Sky from BT and I decided to do this on a 1 year up front payment, which is also what BT offer. So my previous line rental was £14.60 at BT and Sky line rental is £12.25 if you pay monthly. Both Sky & BT offer a one off 12 month upfront line rental payment and for BT it is £120 and from Sky a slightly cheeky figure of £119 (clearly designed to just undercut BT). So I opted to pay Sky upfront because you have to enter a 12 month contract anyway for the line rental and it gives you just more than two months free in effect.
So, in short I used to pay the following (excluding line rental)
£52 (Sky TV) + £7.50 (Unlimited broadband) = £59.50
I now get full Sky HD, Multi-room & unlimited broadband for = £51.62, saving £7.88 per month, which is £94.56 a year for a better package!
I have also saved £56.20 per year on line rental, but of course £28 of that is from paying in advance for 12 months.
Thanks Jay, you set a good bench mark and I am very happy with my deal. ... although I think I will negotiating again in 12 months with Sky!
Hope others can get similar or even better deals and post them up.0 -

Well done Jayu619 and Inflatable Armidillo. We have just come to the end of our 6 month discount and wonder what to ask for. We have a Sky+ box and an old sky box and pay
£44.75 Entertainment Extra + Sky Sports
£10.25 Multiroom
£ 7.50 Broadband
£ 5.00 Sky Talk
We would like a new Sky+ HD box, no, or half-price, HD subscription, free installation of existing sky+ box into other room to replace old sky box no multiroom payment and a discount on existing tv.
Where do you think I should start? Is it better to ring in the morning or evening? Help, pretty please0 -
Just done the same. My contract expired middle of last year so ive been paying full price since then.
They offered 25% off TV package for 12 months,
Half price HD MIX for £5.25 for 12 months,
Free HD 1TB BOX - but with £64.95 "self install charge" - I think the guy got this wrong as im sure its really £49 for the box and £15 for install.
New 12 month contract. Phone line / BB seperate.0 -
biblejohn: what exactly did you do to get the offer? Threaten to leave, or just ask for a better deal?0
