Just called up sky I was very polite indeed though the person kept me on the phone for 28mins!
Cancelled our Service which included:
Sky+
Sky+ Multiroom
Base Package + Movies & Sports
Which all cost £60.25 = £723 a year
Didn't get any retention deals was just advised to downgrade.
I've seen a few offers on the HD side, though we don't have HD TV's. The rep said that to be classed as a new customer you have to be sky free for 12 months... is this correct?
They'll get back in touch in about 2 months, they did with me and others. I got offered 1/2 price for a year, told them to shove it unless I got a new HD box (I didn't and I didn't go back even for 1/2 price)
One tip when they do call back and ask have you still got your Sky+ box, tell them you gave it away and you'll get a HD one off them, hopefulyy for free !!0 -
Thanks 2Sheds. I'll update if I get the magic call...0

It would be better to tell them that your box packed up - and that that was partly why you cancelled your subscription.Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance

Hi All
I'm not very good at this whole Sky/Virgin stuffcan someone tell me if this is a good offer?
Virgin
XL Broadband
XL TV
Box- Tivo (I think it's called that - it records etc)
ESPNC (I think) it's the sport chanel
Box in another room (does not record or pause etc)
Phone with free evenings and weekends
All this for £54 a month - sound OK??
Hi, that doesn't look too bad actually, does that include telephone line rental though?0 -
hi, just thought id share my sky experience...
our sky + has been playing up for ages, and weve been cutting back everything we can, so last week i called to cancel. we were on £24.50 telly, £15 broadband. the lady didnt offer me anything, other than a free hd box with hd subs, which is the bog standard upgrade... available online with free m&s vouchers, so that would actually have been a better deal.
i called again yesterday, and was offered a free hd box, and half price hd for 6 months.(i wasnt impressed, kept it to myself tho!) i explained that i almost upgraded last month when there was £70 quidco, and £100 m&s vouchers, but couldnt afford the extra, and was there owt else they could offer. i brought up maybe looking at sky talk, and line rental, and was offered 12 months free line rental, and broadband for £10, instead of £15. i was puzzled, as online if you start a new contract, and add calls and line rental, broadband becomes £7.50. (if you are calling, double check all the various options on the sky site, including building ure own package, so you know whats out there). i was told nope, thats only online, i was also told i could have either the box offer, or the line offer, not both, so i said id think about it.
i called back today, just to ask a few questions...and got the 1tb box for £49, (the same as web site, standard box wouldve been free), and i got 12 months free line rental, and the half price broadband for £7.50 that i wouldve got online. i did try for half price hd too, cheeky moo that i am, but i didnt wanna push too far, as after spending hours looking at other providers, and doing a crazy amount of maths, i realised that even with full price hd i was making a massive saving on calls, and broadband, compared to what i had been on! it really does seem to matter who you talk to, so to anyone out there who hasnt had much luck, dont give up, it took me 3 goes!
good luck!:):hello:

I thought my current sky hd subscription was coming to an end about now so called up sky yesterday to check when it was, as every year i state i will leave them and usually get 50% off the TV package etc. They said I would be out of my subscription / contract on Jan 20th 2012, so I said "good, thanks", to which the helpful lady on the phone asked me why. I said because thats when I will leave. Initially she said for me to call back in January, then she said " I can offer you a deal of free line rental (£12.25) and free broadband (£7.50) for 9 months, saving me around 175 quid between now and September 2012. I said "yes please".
£175 saved for a 5 minute wait in a queue and a chat to a helpful lady.
If you call and they offer you nothing simply hang up, dial again, and keep going until you get a deal. Im convinced they can all offer cheaper deals but it seems up to them as to whether or not they offer you anything. I have the broadband and bog standard tv, no movies, no sports.
best of luckMortgage at August 2017 - £169,800

Can anyone confirm if the £100 M&S voucher offer for upgrading to HD has now ended? Just went to take advantage and it wasn't there!0

hi, i followed a bit of advice on this thread and got somewhere. Basically, last month my years contract was up with sky and i was free to leave if i wanted to. I called up to cancel and leave. The first lady i spoke to didnt really do a lot to try and get me to stay. She offered me free phoneline rental for a year (worth about £12.50 per month i think), but i said no and 'left'. She organsied my disconnection date and wished me well etc. i then waited 3 days and rang them up and told them i'd had an e-mail asking me not to leave. (Which was pretty much true). the second guy i spoke to halved my entire TV bill for 6 months and added in the movie channels. That saves me about £160 across the 6 months, AND i'm not locked into another years deal, so in 6 months i can ring back up to 'leave' again. thanks everyone. :rotfl:0

I rang Sky to tell them I was leaving to go to Virgin. They offered me 12 months at 25% off with free ESPN sports for 3 months which is normally £9 a month (ring to cancel at end of month 2 to ensure you don't pay after the 3 months). You do need to already have the Sports package to get the ESPN though.
Do a bit of research on packages of other providers in your areas & what they can offer you. I gave Sky the hook to keep me by telling them that I really like the Sky Atlantic channel which isn't available by any other provider.0
