put through the cancellation - the call back will be forthcoming with the best discounts they can offer - if you still don't want to leave that fine as you can cancel the cancellation any time in the 30 day notice period...

Could someone advise me if I'm likely to get a retentions offer from Virgin Media? I've been a customer for a few years with just their M+ TV package and Asian Mela bundle which comes to £23.50 a month. My contract is over and I'm happy to move over my phone and broadband to them, and they have quoted me £40 for unlimited anytime calls and 10MB broadband + the same TV package I have at the moment.

At the moment I already have a really good discount with BT and get unlimited calls and 20MB broadband for £15 a month anyway, so the VM offer works out more pricey if I move my other services over to them.

Am I likely to get offered any better discount from VM - I've given them cancellation notice already and called back once but was still quoted the same price (essentially the £45 has a £7 discount from their normal price).

    Thanks!

    You're looking at £35 + minimum.

That BT deal you have cannot be beaten.

Our Sky box gave up working on Christmas Eve ... didn't bother me really as I don't watch much TV but the kids like the Disney Channel. I've contacted Sky who said I have 3 options ... 1. pay £65 for a new box installed by an engineer; 2. pay £8.95 per month maintenance; 3. pay £10 per month upgrade to HD, free box and 12 months warranty and free install. I said there is a 4th option which is to leave Sky altogether and go Freeview but they just laughed. Sky has the monopoly around here as there is no cable. I rang back today to tell them we'd have the HD but they said it would be £10.25/month plus £15 delivery. I told them to get lost (politely) but again I feel as though they have us between a rock and a hard place. If I phone back tomorrow the delivery will probably be £30!

Is there any other way we can get Disney Channels without have to pay over £30 per month to Sky whose customer service is appalling. Thanks
  • We're with Virgin.
We have XL TV with large broadband

I asked for my phone to be cut off last year, as I couldn't afford it.

I wanted the phone back on but was told " £50 for the engineer to come out"

    Told them forget it.

My box is the old plan box, not a v+ and it was on the blink. OH rang up to ask about a new box and also if they could do us a deal, as Sky give you free installation, new box and phoneline.

He got put through to retentions.

We got a lower monthly bill, new box and free phoneline switch on.

When the lovely chap came, he asked did we want a Tivo box for £3 a month. No installation fee or activation fee, as he was already in our home, and he had one in the van!

I snapped his hand off and I love the Tivo box!

The mention of Sky worked for us. And my OH who rang!

Phone and cancel - any other customer team don't offer the best deals. Cancelling gets you to a different team who can offer better deals. You may get offered something straight away or get a callback in your cancellation period.

Thanks tried it but they're only offering the HD with free box at £10.25/month with £15 install or £60 box/isntall and half price HD for the first 6 months. I just feel that we'll be paying £30+ per month for the Disney Channel as everything else we watch it Freeview:(
  • Happy days! Phoned Sky to cancel/reduce subscription & after a chat with a very helpful Scottish guy I will now be getting a free HD box & free installation, free line rental & bill reduced by £30 pm!!!:j

My 2nd 6 months 50% Sky deal came to an end. After several phone calls managed to get 25% off for 12 months. Also got phone and unlimited internet free for 9 months so not bad result in the end.
  • I rang Sky to see if I could get our bill reduced. We currently pay £42.75 for our Sky package, multiroom and broadband and Sky Talk. We also pay £15 to BT for our line rental. The guy went through my account and we agreed to take off the multiroom to reduce the bill and he then offered me 9 months free line rental and broadband if we moved our line rental to Sky. Its only a 12 month contract so if we aren't happy the worst we have to pay is 3 months of £12.25 line rental. I think its a great offer as we have now gone from paying £57.75 between Sky and BT to £25 a month for 9 months with Sky. That's saved £294.75 over 9 months!

I asked if there was anything he could do with the price of the Sky TV package but he said you could only have one deal at a time and the line rental one worked out much better.
