Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

Hi just wondered how people are getting on with discounts right now?
I have been lucky enough to get 2 lots of the 6 months for half price and when I called last week was told to ring back today to get the same offer.
I was only offered 25% off for 12 months on this occasion - is this the best deal around at the moment or are people still getting half price and I just need to ring back and speak to a kinder person0 -
We are with Virgin and rang up this morning to see if they could save us any money.
We currently have:
XL Phone
XL TV
L Broadband
V+ Box
Caller display
for £53 per month
Apparently we are on their best tariff but after asking to cancel we eventually got:
XL Phone
XL TV
L Broadband
500mb TIVO box
V+ box installed in another room
Caller Display
for £52 per month (a massive saving of 80p!) :rotfl:
The lady in retentions knew that we were too far from the exchange to get any sort of decent broadband down a phone line and that we are regular users of around 12gb per month. I'm guessing that if you can get good broadband from other providers that Virgin would be more competitive.
Still at least we got something for nothing although we are tied in for another 12 months for the tivo box. We asked about deals on sports and movies packages but nothing was forthcoming.0 -
Not so much of a discount (in that our monthly payment went up) but we have Virgin Broadband, phone and tv package.
wanted new Tivo box and V+ in bedroom,
Customer service advised that free deal was for new customers only.
Went through to cancelations and advised I was off, got new Tivo, fee activation, free instilation, and free install of v + box in bedroom.
Also got new upgraded modem for free (to handle the ridiculous amount of WiFi devices appearing in our house)
Had to pay the extra £3 a month but still a good saving on the installs etc!
Push the cancelations and you will be rewarded!0 -
Sky have given me 25 per cent discount for a 6 month period from tomorrow, was previously on a 50 per cent discount. Id emailed a cancelletion of all sky bar broadband and they advised they would phone me back with an offer, they did, today.
Could not be ersed haggling as i would have been on the phone for half an hour. Im sure i would have got 50 per cent if i was insistent on going ahead and cancelling.
25 per cent is fair enough as i can afford full price.
Everyone who trys to get a discount should have no problem getting one, providing they hold their nerve and are prepared to cancel/call their bluff as they know we are at it.0 -
Hi there,
Can anyone help me...
Has anyone got any advice on this deal..
L Broadband
XL TV
M Phone
V+ Box
Sky Sports and Movie Collection
£72
Do you think it could be haggled down or could i get more for that price?
Does anyone have a package similar to this?0 -
I have tried to get these discounts now for a couple of months, but i'm having no joy. They just keep telling me to give up certain channels and HD to get my bill down.
How can everyone else get them and we cant. I have spoke to cancellations and they were no help.
Now hubby has been made redundant we really need to start saving some money but my suggestion of getting rid of sky to the rest of the family is proving a stumbling block.
Any tips please.0 -

Sky has offered you no discount and you’ve continued subscribing: so Sky reckons you’re bluffing about cancellation and are just trying to get your subscription on the cheap.
You have to show Sky that you’re serious, by cancelling and going through with it.
If Sky doesn’t make you an offer within days (before or after) of the cut-off, they will do when they’ve stopped receiving money from you for a couple of months. Sky doesn't like not receiving money. (And you'll be saving it.)
Bear in mind that you have to give 31 days’ notice of cancellation, so, if you do it today, you’ll still get Sky over Christmas and New Year.
Since you ask for advice, mine would be that if your husband has been made redundant and Sky is now a luxury you can’t afford (at least at full-rate) any members of your family who protest at being denied it should be told to go out and work to earn the money to pay for the subscription.
You, yourself, do have my sympathy :heart2: ; these are difficult times (and they will get harder in 2012). Bite the bullet, cancel your subscription and (if necessary) go through with it. If family life really does become unbearable without Sky, you can always re-subscribe after a few weeks: Sky won’t make that difficult for you, Sky wants your money and would welcome you back.
Bottom line is not to get into debt in order simply to watch more television. There’s always FreeSat HD and there’s plenty of interesting stuff to watch on that.Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance

I just phoned Sky and said that I didn't feel I was getting value for money from the deal I'm on compared to Freesat as they offer the same channels we watch for free. I said that the whole purpose of us getting Sky 18 months ago was for the movies and sports and I didn't see any point carrying on with Sky without them.
They have thrown in Sky Sports for free for 9 months and Movies for £7.25/month ongoing. No contract, we can cancel when we want and when the sports go to full price in 9 months time we will already have called them to cancel the package again to see what they are willing to offer.
Lovely job, Happy Christmas.

Hi, after reading through this thread yesterday I rang VM to try and bring down my package.
XL TV
XL Broadband
M Phone
£58
They offered me a £7 discount which I rejected and said I wanted to cancel and go to Sky.
I received a call a few moments ago offering me a free phone (blackberry curve or Nokia ****) and a sim card that was £5 a month. This was for being in their words "a loyal customer"
I explained that I was already contracted with a mobile and declined, then that was it.
Is that really the best they can do?0 -
I called Sky at the end of Nov to see what deals they had on for 'Loyal customers' ....they offered me 25% off for 12 months, they said they could no longer offer any better deal (50% off) as customers found it hard going back to full price once the deal had ended?? So I cancelled my Sky package £52 per month plus £10 HD subs by giving the obligatory 31 days notice. Had a questionnaire via email a week or so later asking if I could confirm why leaving, I completed this. Heard nothing.
Three days before before the cancellation date had a call asking why I left, I explained that I watched a bit of most channels so found it hard to lose any so had decided to cancel. Sky said that an offer was showing on my account, and needed to go through security with me. It showed that they could offer me 12 months at half price with no contract so I can cancel when I want, if I have to.
Now paying £36 a month.
So it will be a Merry Christmas.0
