I thought this thread was titled` Sky,Virgin and BT haggle down prices and get serious discounts article discussion`, so that`s why I commented on it....I got a serious discount.

I didn`t come on here to slate people for their choice of entertainment and expenditure. I simply stated how I got a deal from Sky.
  • I just read Martin's article on haggling, and having had success before with BT, thought I'd give my TV and Broadband supplier, Virgin , a call.

I first did a quick comparison; I have the Virgin Media 'Large' TV package and fibre optic unlimited broadband (phone provided by BT.)
Cost is £34.50 per month (£414 pa).

I called Virgin and pointed out Sky's intro deal of £32.25 pm (£387 pa) inc evening and weekend calls with a free £100 M&S voucher. My approach was 'I'm happy with the service but want to make sure I'm getting the most competitive rate"
The advisor was very clued up, immediately pointing out the 2 meg download limit compared to the unlimited virgin contract. She also had my usage to hand so could see Sky was not suitable.

However, she offered me £33.00 per month (for ever) as the best she could offer against my current £34.50. A small concession but I bit her hand off!

Worth the phone call for sure!
  • I have just got off the phone from sky i have tv, phone and broadband with them..... I wanted to check i was no longer in a contact with them which i knew i wasn't :D I said i was thinking of leaving as i needed to save some money I told them i could get my phone and broadband cheaper with another company and i was going to switch to freeview the very nice lady offered me my phone and broadband FREE for 9 months :T which has put a smile on my face as i have no arial and would not be able to have freeview and that's why i went with sky originally hahahaha :A
  • Just phoned Sky after reading this forum. Mentioned switching to virgin and got 9 months free line rental and broadband! Saves me £180. Not bad for 30 mins work on the phone - delighted, thanks everyone.

Oh come on it was hardly slating, I just stated a fact that you spent 1k per year on Sky television, my point was you still think you are getting good value, in my opinion your not and you should have got the additional boxes for free.

Rang Sky and tried to haggle down, got told there were absolutely no discounts/offers available and the only way to reduce cost was to remove/change package(s).

Told them to cancel and i will now have a look around elsewhere!
  • I'm out of contract so spoke to Sky today and gave them the information that I had gained from Virgin Media.

    XL Broadband
    XL TV
    500MB Tivo box
    V+ box in another room
    Phone line free
    All for £43.90/pm

Sky Sports package including ESPN took package to £63.40 then
Sky Movies package took it to £71.40

The best that Sky can do is £81.40 which includes HD but with no second box.
Should I change to VM or stay with Sky? Decisions decisions

Rang Sky yesterday after reading Martins email, she lady I spoke to was very pleasant but was not wanting to give anything away. I currently have

Sky TV Entertainment extra & movies, broadband unlimited and phone inc line rental.

Said I was looking to cut costs in these harsh times, young lady was nice and had a good talk to her about general stuff and the storms we had yesterday (just to try sweeten the deal)

I told her I could get phone and broadband cheaper with talk talk, abeit only £5 a month and that I would happily remove movies (not so happily from my girlfriends point of view though) This went on for a bit I was hanging on hoping she was going to offer something.

Then out of the blue she said she could offer free line rental for 12 months so thats a saving of over £144 for the year, so im chuffed to bits with that.

I then said I would remove movies hoping sh might give a deal there but wasnt to be so thats going.

Bill now down from £58 a month to £29 so Im happy for now.

    Thanks

Do you have broadband and phone with Sky already?
I reckon if you get the right agent you could get that down to £70.75 for 9 months on 12 month contract.
If you don't have phone and broadband already then it would be for 12 months.

There are no offer retention teams working at Sky so some teams have zero offers to give. They will probably be looking at removing these offers when the recession ends.
They did it before so you never know.
