I have read a lot of threads about this and can report:

    A) if you already have v+ and a VHD, they can move your V+ into the other room and swap the VHD for a Tivo - many reported this reduced the bill by £3.50 per month (remove multi-room £6.50, add Tivo £3).
    B) if you only have v+, they can offer to install that in another room, waive £6.50 multi room charge per month, add £3 Tivo per month.

A few report free activation and free install - only seems to work going through Retentions (thinking of leaving number) rather than sales or normal CS, and helps if you say you have seen it on their website. If no deal is forthcoming, can give 30 days notice and outbound Retentions (they call you) seem to be able to offer more.

Either you calling them or them calling you may or may not result in a deal being offered in other aspects of your package (sometimes seems like a lottery on who answers the phone).

    Good luck

I currently have a V+ and VHD, just done a deal for a 1TB tivo and the V+ is being moved into the other room...at no cost and no monthly fee.

So you finally managed to get a deal? - your persistence paid off! Haven't seen anyone getting the 1TB up to now so you have done really well!

  • After reading this thread last night I thought I would give sky a call..... only been with them a year and ended up with 25% off for next 12 months. Happy with that :0) thanks everyone
  • Hi,

Sorry if this is already posted, have looked back a few pages and cant see anything....

I currently have Sky+ HD and was on a 6 month half price deal which has just ended. Before I ring up and threaten to cancel, does anyone know if my Sky+ box will still work on Freeview or if I will still have to pay something for it? I rang last time but I cant remember if it was going to be free or not and want to know what im saying before I go 'all guns blazing' and shoot myself in the foot!!

    Thanks AMWP :)
  • Hi,
You will be able to use the +box to view the free channels but can't use it to record unless you pay them a fee- my friend has our old + box from when we upgraded to HD and just uses it like a freeview box- hope that helps! My contracts up at the end of the month so gonna try to cancel tomorrow see what discount i can get :-) Jo

I'm confused - I thought that if I went for a TiVo, they swapped out the V+ box and charged me £49 and £3 extra per month. Surely if I kept the V+ box, they would charge extra for that.

I was much younger when I had the original analogue Thomson TiVo and it took me a while to learn to drive it. I can cope with running the SA V+ box and the small HD disciplines me to watch and delete stuff. I'm concerned that the 'Virgin' TiVo is more complicated and hence if I don't get on with it, then I want my V+ box back.

I think it is included in the TiVO package. Not sure, it would be best to ask.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

No it isn't normally included in the Tivo package (to keep V+) but retentions can seem to offer this as a deal for existing customers (if you get the right person, the wind is blowing in the right direction and they like you ;) - there is no clear logic to who gets what!) - as I mentioned above, the target is to keep the V+ for free (no additional monthly fee) and add a Tivo (vast majority report that the £3 monthly fee gets added, but no £6.50 multiroom charge).

  • Decided as i was bored to ring SKY to see if i could get a reduction.

Currently on a rolling contract. Got half price HD for 6 months and 25% off the package.

I have everything except Movies and ESPN. £36 a month !! (including HD!!)

I also have BT vision and they are basically giving that away to me as its part of my BBand and phone pack. BT Vision is due a rethink and im expecting the YouView launch to do away with my need for SKY HD anyways.

Advice to anyone... Ring em and just ask for money off !!! They want to keep the customers they already have as the new ones are not coming as thick and fast as they used to ;)

    Good luck !
  • I tried to do a deal with sky but wasnt successful so i gave 30 days notice of cancelling.

probably but the way some of these quotes are going you might be offered 25% off no more but i could be wrong(hopefully am)
mine had been cancelled 24 hours when i received a call but you might get earlier all depends on the sky representative who`s calling
    good luck :t
