Just an update: No major changes, working hard, losing weight through hard work, and finally in a position to put in a little bit into zopa - my first pound (to check the right bank details) is being transferred today, and if it works I'll put in a few hundred a month to see how things go; I know it's a gamble but think it's worth taking.Feb 2012 - onwards MF achieved

Hi OM
Good to hear from you. Re Zopa, do you follow Tall Girl's thread? TG has been doing Zopa for over a year now I think. I'm sure she'd be happy to share her experiences if you asked her.
Hope you, MOM and BOM are well and benefitting from being MF :j
Regards

Alchemilla nice to speak to you too! There's loads of chalks here it appears, but since hitting our mortgage target, there's no need to post on this forum, and the drive to save has slowed especially with changing life circumstances. That said, I'm working tonight like many others! Another week begins tomorrow...

I will follow it up and get some advice. Being MF is brilliant, it means that we're able to live within our means and although we're far from extravagant we're able to enjoy quality time with each other which is pricelessFeb 2012 - onwards MF achieved

Don't get disheartened! It's a lot of luck on my behalf - bought at the right time, married someone with a house, and have 2 scrimping mindsets. I think the big picture is the fact that teachers have a relatively good salary and steady prospects.
Just keep on plugging away and you will get there, little and often is the way forward.Feb 2012 - onwards MF achieved

Spent 33 minutes on the phone to BT and got a new deal at a saving of £26 a month. It is for the super fast infinity which I use and love, but am delighted that it will be 300 quid saved over the year. Result!Feb 2012 - onwards MF achieved

Right, so I have now 2k in Zopa - not planning any more, as I can't really see how I will make more money on it; but it's worth a bit of a gamble, I am sure I'll get my money back, but will see. I think so far in 2 months I've made a total of 79p "interest" which isn't quite enough to retire from... but is more than my bank gives me on its normal "ungenerous" interest rate.Feb 2012 - onwards MF achieved

Well, it's made £4 so far, which is better than any other account - have transferred a little more but will stop. Was reading online about someone who makes 1k a month in interest from this scheme - at 5% interest, they must have about 240k invested in zopa - big players!Feb 2012 - onwards MF achieved

I quite like Zopa, although rates have definitely fallen.
At one point Mrs E and I had £5k in it and the returns were pretty decent. Nothing like that now (since we paid our flat deposit in 2012!)
In the 2-3 years I've used it, I've had two debts go bad, both of which were eventually paid in full.0
