  • Have kicked the can down the road a bit further - remortgaged as last time - 2 year tracker, no set up fees, no exit fees (can leave at any time) and with £100 coming my way in August. As such it's .25% lower than the rate I was on, so am saving £20 a month, so it feels like a good deal regardless. So I have a .25% increase "insurance" as it would take me back to my previous rate (base +1.59, now base +1.34) and I can swap out at any time. Rather pleased :)

  • So after remortgaging, the interest rate promptly took me back to what I was paying before - so no net loss but no net gain either.
Busy few months, it's the season of cars being insured, houses insured, breakdown cover - basically one a month till Christmas.

We also have changed heating suppliers - annoyingly we were on a cheap deal with one of the big 4 but their best price meant adding 50% (from 70 a month to 105) which seemed huge - so we've changed to a smaller provider with a smaller increase pcm, locked in for 18 months to hopefully see us through 2 winters - as prices never generally do down do they :)

Other than that, have a few extra money strategies - hopefully a small bonus in a few months, doing some extra sessions at work, again in a few months etc - just to help tide us over.

  • After having read this article today:
    https://www.theguardian.com/money/2017/jun/10/rac-cover-breakdown-renews-automatically-paying-over-odds

I was grateful of renewing our breakdown cover last week - the letter said that the best deal they could do was 240 pa for 2 cars with European cover - I did a quick compare on the small furry animal, and rang up our provider who instantly matched to the lower price of 120. Annoyed that they expect so many people to either NOT check or set up an automatic renewal to fleece apathetic people. So not really 120 quid saved but always useful in light of our tight fiscal situation :)

  • Dec Update - We're not overpaying but ticking over - some big decisions ahead, in terms of what MOM does long term job wise, what our priorities are etc. SMall things - moved broadband provider and have saved a decent chunk per month - especially as it's with a red phone company who seemingly are unable to offer the right speed of internet in their guarantee - so I'm getting an extra 15% off my broadband bill each month.
