Telesales for an Aspie? You can't be serious. I'd walk in front of a car if I had to do that every day.
Sorry OP I have no actual advice for you other than keep trying. You may have to just lie and say you are a team player etc, that's what they want to hear. Or you can spin it, say you prefer to work on your own but are happy to help the team out where required. You say this New Deal thing can help you with interview skills so I would work on that and get yourself a good stock of answers and phrases ready for as many different questions as possible.0 -
But why should a disabled person be employed over a more suitable applicant? I am disabled, but would never expect to get a position over someone better than me.
I agree. I was talking to the manager of a work placement I once did. I was basically told "we ignore the disability and look at the experience of the person".
I don't expect to be given a job over a non-disabled person because I am disabled - to me that is discrimination.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

I'm not sure a compulsory employment scheme for disabled people is the right way forward. A job is usually given to the most suited person for the job disability or not as long as reasonable adjustment can be made.
I am an assistant manager for social services and we get all sorts of applicants for interviews. Our policy is we will guarentee an interview if the applicant meets the criteria for the job. There are places that will help you fill in aps but to be fair there are never unemployable people have you thought about agency work- cleaning catering etc0 -
Little miss aspie, I thnk you are confusing AS with tourettes as people I know with the condition can hold a perfectly good reasonable adult intelligent conversation. One person is actually a union rep. So lets not just generalise the condition here! Surely working to better yourself whatever it may be is worth more than waiting to see what the government will hand out to you?0

Wantsajob. I do believe that you should disclose your disability on your application forms as then you are guaranteed an interview. otherwise the company concerned are breaking the Disability discrimination act. Do you have a support worker who could perhaps attend interviews with you? Could you contact the AS organisation to see if there is any support there? http://www.aspergerfoundation.org.uk/:smileyhea A SMILE COSTS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING0

Where did LittleMissAspie say that someone with AS could not hold a conversation, or indeed suggest that the OP continue to claim benefits? I think you have misread her post.Gone ... or have I?0 -

That is not correct, the DDA does not guarantee a disabled person an interview. There is a Guaranteed Interview Scheme (membership of which is voluntary) which guarantees a disabled person an interview if they meet the minimum requirements.Gone ... or have I?0 -
I think you are mistaken sir. I have been looking for work without success as I previously mentioned. Could you please explain how someone is able to work if they are not able to get a job? There seems to be some sort of failure in your logic somewhere.
And no ESA won't help here either as the conditions are the same as IS - i.e. if I have a partner working 24 or more hours a week then that's it.
I am not a sir but a madam (not half!).
I repeat, if you are looking for and capable of work then you should NOT be claiming any disability benefit except DLA. This is not my logic but the logic of IB/IS/ESA which are for people who are not able to work rather than those who can't get a job.
My comment about ESA referred to the fact that people like you, who have fallen through a loophole, will be moved to the more appropriate benefit, JSA.0 -
I'm sorry, but it sounds like you're using your disability for an excuse.
It's fine to say things are hard for you, due to your diagnosis, but not to let it beat you.
A young lad I used to care for had severe dyslexia. He was employed by ASDA, and they bent over backwards to put support in place so that he could perform his job, and not be disadvantaged by his disability. Not all employers are the same, and there will be skills and traits you have, that a non AS person does not....such as following the rules to the letter, structure / routine, attention to detail...these are all assets to an employer.
My son is 20, and just recently finished a 2 year course to qualify as a plasterer, and has now completed an additional course in brickwork.
He also has Asperger's.
So he is doing voluntary work, unpaid, so employers can see the person, not judge him on a disability.
Get yourself out there, and be proactive.
Regards

Never said she said for him to keep claimig benefits. But why shouldn't an AS sufferer do telesales? A job, any job is better than claiming benefits.
There you go dmg24! Anyway i'm not going to get in to a heckling match0
