I picked a kg of sloes today, first time I've ever done it. Will be getting the gin tomorrow, apparently it doesnt matter if its the cheapest gin as the sloes will flavour it anyway. Lakeland sell a nice bottle to put it in if you are giving it away as a gift.
How do you serve sloe gin? Do you do it the usual way, ie a bit of the gin then top up with tonic? Or do you serve it as is?“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
 I am going to make some sloe gin, just waiting for the first frost, I read somewhere to use demerara (sp) sugar, but somewhere else said granulated, how do you guys do it ?
Also I think someone said to put in a few drops of almond essence is this correct ?
Thanks

Hi redruby,
Mine are in the freezer to simulate a frost at the moment until I get some gin...apparently it's ok to use a cheap gin so I'm going to buy tesco own brand.
The recipe that I intend to use is:
For every 1lb sloes (pr1cked), add:
8oz caster sugar
1 and 3/4 pints of gin
There's a recent thread on sloe gin that should help so I'll merge your thread with that one to keep all the suggestions together.

Hi all,
My father in law loves sloe gin - he usually makes it himself ready for xmas. He isn't a big drinker and I would love to make him an unusual drink as a christmas pressie.
Anyone have any ideas of similar homemade (sloe gin tastebud) drinks? No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30 -

There are many great recipes on here for sloe gin.... but I was wonderering if you can use dried sloes to make the sloe gin. And if so... does anyone know what quantity of dried sloes should be used with the gin and sugar......
Thanks in advance:o0 -

As well as making sloe gin my DH makes damson gin and also blackberry brandy made in the same quantities of fruit to sugar to spirit as the other posts.
He uses the free fruit found in the lanes and countryside.
Great for Christmas:beer:

Got them from a homebrew / wine making place off the internet...
Not strictly OS... as they were £4 for 500 grams. But might have been a bit of a waste, as I cant find a recipe using them for sloe gin.
Might have to get the "lets experiment" head on so that they dont go to waste;) Failing that...may just make wine with them ..0 -
