I used to make this and used one third of the bottle of p r i c k e d over sloes, one third of the bottle sugar and the rest topped up with gin. Keep turning it every day till the sugar is dissolved and keep at least 3 months. Wonderful it is for xmas and new year

Exactly how I do it too! Delish
We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.

I just use 1Lb of sloes and 1Lb of sugar with 1 litre of gin. Peirce the sloes to the stone and then put them in an air tight jar with the sugar and gin. Leave this for about three months, give it a good shake up every couple of weeks or so, Strain it through some muslin cloth and back into the bottle and its done

Cut some of the sloes in half to check for bugs. Unless the tree has been cared for, a lot of the sloes will contain grubs.

I've never done that before, can't be needed as I've never had a problem before, if you get the sloes after a heavy frost you're not supposed to have to pierce them either.

Or lets put it this way, I've never actually tasted the grubs anyway......... or maybe I have and they tasted nice

Or you can just put them in the freezer for a little while...no need to ermm...'thingy' them either then :D
Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly!
