  • This band always change musicians around and you will never get what you are supposed to book for.
Musicians are underpaid 100-150 £ and this is why they always change them.

If you pay peanuts to musicians, you will get monkey musicians.

Stay Clear from those kind of wedding bands if you can ,
go and check yourself the band on a performance, go to a pub and look for a band that you like.

On the internet there are a lot of "wedding bands" and when you ask for seeing one they will tell you that they only do private functions so you can't see them "live".

They have videos and music produced to a high standard but unfortunately this is not real or what you will get.
Music Technology now days is very advanced and you can make a big bubble out of nothing.

    Not good value for money.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
  • This is an interesting post,

I'm a professional keyboard player and i do know of Hulagroove. i haven't played with them but the notes on here is an interesting point that does cause reason for discussion.

I can't really vouch for the quality of Hulagroove; their service or musicians, but having a pool of musicians is quite a standard and accepted practice in this industry.

If i'm performing with a function band, it's usually not the best paid job out there (actually £150 is generally a good function fee), but also not the worst. The fact is that functions are quite competitively priced, and can form a really useful bulk of reliable income for any pro musician.

I'm often doing studio sessions, or get offered high profile tours which can sometimes provide me with work over a two week stretch for every single day of those two weeks. In these cases, i'm not always able to honour function bookings which i'm sometimes asked to put in my diary months in advance.

With the music industry in the state that it is at the moment, it's a something that any good musician who is worth booking may have to make in order to make a living and help forward their career.

What you'd hope is that Hulagroove have a group of musicians who are all good quality and who are reliable... obviously the problem comes when any replacements or 'deps' are not up to standard.

Whilst you will undoubtably be able to find some good bands performing at pubs, they are not always the most professional, and you may not get the best musical performance than if you find a band made from musicians who are doing other jobs as well. So i guess it's a bit of a chicken or egg in a way.

Anyhow, that's just a musician's perspective, i thought i may be useful to throw in my thoughts :)
