You seemed to be sticking up for them... I'd start running now, it's early yet and the others haven't read this yet. :rotfl:

Sorry, just the way I read it was 'we are hard working musco's, we don't earn much, and all that....' and so I just replied accordinally.

Yes I read it that way too. It came across as a bit "Poor me..." But it is a career choice isn't it. Some muscians teach music in schools and colleges and have a more regualr life and income. If people choose a more erratic (and probably very interesting) lifestyle and income then that's up to them.

If you go back a few years people were killed, maimed or seriously disabled by their work - we should all be really grateful that we didn't live in the days when people were bent double in coal mines or getting lung diseases from working in (dark satanic) mills.

I'm clearly expressing myself badly and may have to withdraw if I'm making such a bad impression.

I wasn't making out that it's such a terrible profession, I was just pointing out that £20 an hour also has to cover all the other hours involved in preparing for and getting to the gig. I'm not saying that musicians are alone in having to cover this kind of stuff - teachers, for example, do work in the hours that they are not strictly being paid for but it does mean that the hourly rate is really lower. I'm commenting only on the hourly rate here, NOT THE CANCELLATION CHARGE (which I just don't want to get into)..

Shall I get my Violin out?:T

To be honest, I reckon this thread has run its course now. OP is all sorted by the sounds of it and is happily getting on with the wedding plans.

So I do think some of the T&Cs are OTT but please don't lose sight of the fact that performing music is a skill and while you're having a great time at your wedding, we're performing all evening and it is tiring. I'm not looking for sympathy, I just don't think that hourly rate is at all unreasonable.

To be fair, she might have a point :D the cancellation T&C's were a bit much...

And a good band can make all the difference to a night so £20 odd quid an hour can be a bargain. Dont worry Viola we aren't all argumentative sods... ;)

wont name any names... you know who you are :P lol

Last I heard, it was all resolved.

Yes the original problem was resolved but one or two people were posting on specific wedding forums to make potential clients aware of what they are getting themselves into. Wondered how that was going.

MSE is great for not only helping the original person who had the problem but also for stopping others having issues with the same company too.

Nah, I reckon let them get on with it. As has been established, it is standard terms.

    We're not on a crusade I hope.

Yeah I'm always on some crusade or other. :rotfl:

I'll probably lose interest when I'm back at work. ;)
