Yes I'm sure you're right, it seems musicians are a bunch of softies - what happened to suffering for your art?????0 -
just had a read at their rider....lol....they sound like a bunch of real cowboys, 4 x 13 amp sockets to run their kit....lol....1 Hr pre recorded music after midnight £250!!!!...
after this thread (so easily found now on MSE) their reputation is going swiftly down the tubes....lol...would love to know what their charge was....you would be surprised what you can get for as little as £1k nowadays....
unlimited drinks, hot meal and sandwiches....Spinal Tap....come back ...you're forgiven....
they're going to get a bad press....not for their tactics requesting payment...but for their silly rider...
The original cost was £2000. They wanted £1500 for not turning up.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:0 -
Actually thinking about it - does anyone wanna form a band? I can play recorder and triangle!
We could ask Danny if he wants to represent us.
Just need a few more artists and a name... hmmmm0 -

To be fair, if the op had cancelled a week, or even 3 to 6 months before the wedding, my original "see you in court" answer would have been a lot different
But at the time frame we are talking i think they (the band/management etc) would have a hard time proving any financial loss.
T&C's are all well and good but common sense has to be applied. If i were the management of the band i would be:
a) Apologising to the OP
b) Sorting out my T&C's (provisional 10% non refundable deposit to confirm booking and a staggered payment plan to reduce my risks, just a thought Danny) and
c) posting on here to tell the world & dog about it.
Sorted

I read that the OPs fiance made a deal then reneged on it.
I read that she was allegedly pressurised into making the booking by being told the band could not guarantee the date due to demand. As this date is in Christmas week I thought they had a point.
I read that the booking agent made some heavy handed demands for recompense for the cancelled booking.
I read that they were offered a chance to negotiate on this but declined.
I read a large number of posts, including some from posters that I previously respected, abusing this site's enviable standing in the Google ranking system to gain bad publicity for the band, despite having heard only the OP's side of the story. I would like to point out that the band consists of a number of members (16?) and not just the booking agent. So, congratulations, you have probably cost them a lot of money due to your cyberbullying.
I read that the bride-to-be booked a 9 piece band. No half measures in her indecisiveness, is there?
I read that the matter has now been resolved as the band now have another booking.
As for coming to this forum if I needed some serious advice :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Yes. I read the entire thread.

As for coming to this forum if I needed some serious advice :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
1) I don't think we were ever told what size band the bride booked. The 9 piece came up as that is what Danny is claiming (to the OP) he now has a booking for - however this booking is not reflected in his availability checker. This is fishy to say the least.
2) The issue here isn't the bride's indecisiveness. It is a completely over the top cancellation policy which an unscrupulous manager tried to bully a poor couple into paying. Funnily enough, when the general public were made aware of this (and questioned it) , he changed his tone somewhat and 'probably' invented the second booking to save face. If the cancellation terms were really legal, fair and above board then Danny should have stuck to his guns and had his day in court!
3) I don't remember reading about any offered 'negotiations'. In any case it doesn't sound like a very professional way to do business. What was he going to do - round the amount down to a grand????:(
4) Remember this is a band with NO bookings for December according to their availability checker. They didn't have any bookings right at the start of this fiasco because at least 2 of us checked and they still don't have any.
5) I don't think anyone who can actually afford to pay (and maybe lose) their band fee will be put off booking Hula Groove. If a couple have £2000 going spare and they want a good band with good reviews then they will probably still book Hula Groove BUT if a couple has a bit of a tight budget and are really not sure whether any/this band is what they want - this thread might just make them think twice before making email enquiries. They'd be better off ringing him up and not giving him their email address because then they won't have committed themselves to anything! No deposit and no email confirmation means they will be safe from any threats of court action.
6) The serious advice the OP received on here has actually had a good result for him and his bride to be so I wouldn't knock it.
7) If the Hula Groove terms are fair potential customers won't be put off by them will they?0 -

This is the most sensible post I've read on this subject.0 -
No apology. Then again, we wouldn't expect any apology for the stress Hula Groove caused us.
Totally unnecessary.0
