Another thing I have done when pestered by a company who kept ringing my number and asking for someone else (they were told repeatedly they had the wrong number) was to eventually pretend I was the person and tell the company I felt their level of service was appalling that I had been waiting for a call for ages and that as a result I was cancelling my order and had had the work done by a rival firm. Never heard from them again......

But that don't work when Halifax Bank thinks you are somebody else that owes them money!

All you people who shout abuse down the phone..I hope you realise that you can be prosecuted for that if the person on the other end complains.
Its no different to you shouting abuse at someone in the street. Its not allowed.

I second this - because the cold calling company would then show themselves up in front of a judge in a court that would become public record.

I recently worked for a large international Market Research company and were required, on a government-sponsored survey, to call people back even when they refused to participate. But if people got abusive or threatening we could cross them off the callback list!

Jus a quick message from an ex-telesales person.

If your really rude and obnoxious, please don't think they will take you off any lists. Infact, that will probably add you in a couple more times, just to really pick at you. The truth is, these people are underpaid, undervalued and most don't intend on sitting in a call centre calling you as a career goal.

I've sold windows, bathrooms, doors, dog collar, finance, kitchen stationary and phones. the general consensus is : if they p*** you off, it's even funnier when some old fart starts getting all stroppy and panting because you disturbed his antiques roadshow.

I'm not in the line of sales anymore, and don't intend on returning too it, but personally, if your plain rude, your asking for it!

****p.s I didn't think any of the above was right, but I'm just saying how it is from the other side of that phone!***

They don't do it for kicks 'hey, I know! I'll get a job in telesales! What a bundle of laughs! I bet the pay is good too!'

While I agree the receiver of the call has a right to eff and jeff people who cold call, I think wishing them death and calling them vermin is too far. Stop shooting the messenger! They are just doing their job.
There is a red button on your phone for a reason.
