Seems to be a call centre, would explain why the nature of the calls change periodically. Most recent inputs suggest it is a company called PPI Settlements.

Heres a link from the ICO which details how you can go about getting a company to stop calling you:

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

I just shout f**k off down the phone. Doesn't really achieve anything but it makes me feel better

(I'm retired so I have more time but..) I see how long I can keep them talking, slowly, and see how high up their management line I can get. Often these poor s**s are paid on how many calls they make/hour:

No, I'm not a nice person: But I''d argue I'm not as bad as the evil money-grabbing blood-suckers than run & work for these companies:

I could be wrong (or all counts) of course...

    Cheers!

I tend to be very nice when trying to say thanks but no thanks, the people on the other end are probably only in that job until something much better comes up very rarely do any people actually enjoy sales calls - i have to admit i use to do them for double glazing and it waas hell on earth i actually listened when people said no thanks but i got an awful amount of abuse a 3 hour shift in that place seemed like a 3 day shift!!

Its only when the people continue after i have said that i am not interested that i get up on my high horse!!

I just got my third call from them. Been registered with the TPS for as long as I can remember.

As my phone contract is free calls I decided to call them back this time. They answered with 'Hello Mr XXX' (got my name right), which really !!!!ed me off to start with. I asked to speak to someone in charge but 'he has just stepped out'.

Asked where they got my details from, the reply was 'have you signed a credit agreement in the last 20 years?', there should be some law that requires these companies to reveal the actual source of your personal details upon request, and make it illegal to store your details without such detailed information.

Then went into the 'my number is registered with the TPS and you are breaking the law' rant, even told them that I consider their actions 'harrassment and as such if they continue to call I will report it to the police as such' which just got a laugh.

I stayed polite to the guy this time, next time I plan to be as abusive as I can get away with in my office.

There is. The Data Protection Act 1998 contains such a provision.
  • The comedian Richard Herring had lots of calls from a certain phone company (3) a while back, he has a lot of followers on Twitter, also the number wasn't witheld. What he did was tweet about it, and suggested people might wish to call the number and ask them to subscribe to his podcast instead :D lol Apparently a great many people did, which taught the company a lesson - if people ask to be put on a do not call list, do so!

  • I keep them talking and play along with it, pretending to be a bit thick and gullable. When they ask for details, I give them some but made up ie. names, numbers, dates etc. Ultimately they click that they're wasting their time, by wich point they realise I'm giggling. The call usually ends in a swear word or two from me unless they hang up in the mean time. Its childish, rude and juvenile, but they - thats life!
Iterestingly, its seems the annoying calls get less frequent the more time you waste. Maybe it works and word gets around that I'm a waste of time/nutter.

I agree time wasting definitely works. they seem to "black list" you when you do so.

Another thing I have done when pestered by a company who kept ringing my number and asking for someone else (they were told repeatedly they had the wrong number) was to eventually pretend I was the person and tell the company I felt their level of service was appalling that I had been waiting for a call for ages and that as a result I was cancelling my order and had had the work done by a rival firm. Never heard from them again......
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.
