Getting a license after a ban for drink driving - what forms etc?

Hi
Over 10 years ago - I had a provisional license and had passed the theory test. I was convicted of drink driving and having no insurance and banned for 3 years.

I have tried looking on the DVLA site but can't seem to find the relevant info and the automated service similarly doesn't have the option I need.

My questions are - when I apply for a license now - as I only had a provisional - do I just apply for a normal provisional? The website shows there is a form if you have been convicted of a drinking offence but this seems to refer to a FULL license rather than a provisional.

I have been given mixed info from friends regarding whether the conviction is gone / on record / needs mentioning on forms etc.

Would if I ever get to the point of passing my test and getting a car need to declare it to insurers or after 10 years is it not the case?

Thanks for any help.

I know it was an extrememely stupid, irresponsible, dangerous and thoughtless thing to do in the first place - so I could do without that pointing out.

Google your local office and give them a ring.

I've always found them very helpful.

Thanks but again - I think this only relates where you had a full licence in the first place - I only had a provisional and would need to apply for another provisional.

had to take link out as it won't let me post link as a new poster

Hopefully when you regain your license you wont drink again and I really hope IF you do, you don't injury or even kill any one.

Any one who drinks and drives deserves a prison term in my option, as it's your choice to do it and you are not only risking your life but other people.

Regards getting your license back, your insurance will be high and a lot of hire firms will not allow you to hire a car if you have ever been convicted of Dangerous driving/Death by Dangerous driving and/or Drink driving.

Sorry, know you asked not to have it pointed out to you, but your the one in control of your actions, simple as.

Hope all works out this time round for you

Sassy, perhaps you should consider your Sig when posting, many people do things they regret, your post isn't helpful and you don't gain points per post.

Aren't we just a little ray of sunshine. OP already knows it was a stupid thing to do, no need to put the boot in, just answer the question.

You should have read the thread properly! OP said it was over 10 years ago! Insurance won't be a problem, you don't have to declare it to insurance after 5 years anyway, but it remains on your license for 10.

OP - give the DVLA a ring (0300 is freephone from landlines). I can't find any info on getting a provisional licence back after a ban, and I'm unsure if there's a need for a medical (depends on what your alcohol level was).

When a drink driver takes one of the members of your family or even your child/children, you will understand a drink driver should NEVER be allowed to return to the road.

If they did it once, what's stopping them doing it again?

Insurance will be recorded on MID that OP was banned for DD (Drink Driving) so underwriters could look at such information.

Also, a lot of hire companies will refuse, point blank to hire any car/van etc to anyone with a conviction recorded against them for DD or DDD
