Someone like dayinsure.com may be useful here to plug the gap in the insurance.

Are you trading in the old car?

Possibly, just ensure your "lifts" insurance will cover him to drive "your uninsured" car. You really need to be carefull with this as it can cost you your car and him a set of points

Only necessary if the "lift" is driving the OP's car.
If the "lift" drives his own car and takes OP to view dream car, then OP simply has to arrange insurance and drive away - the "lift's" insurance is not an issue.

You are right in what you say though.

Dredging my memory from other threads that have been on here: If you current car is going to be uninsured you won't be able to keep in on a public road - do you have off road parking to store it?

yes we have off the road resisdents parking
  • this is such a tough one. I had previously ruled this car out as although i could afford the car, the insurance, tax and fuel would be a killer. But since I've now found it for a better price it makes it just about affordable!

    Still a difficult decision!

Literally trying to think of things to justify it and ways I can save elsewhere.... may have to start charing people for lifts!
