snowedunder, thanks for all your thoughtful answers. I do think we can come up with something that will work for you (together with you of course!) I'm not sure what budget you're aiming for for your family per month per person?

Also it would be really handy to know about your honey and raw foods, as that's your non-negotiable.

How much do you like each family member to have each day of each? Do you want to keep the 5 a day or are you happy to reduce that as long as your non-negotiables are met?

Do you have any spare time you can throw at this?

I do wish you all the very best of good luck with your challenge. I lived for 18 months on 50p a day healthily, and from that time I sooooooo know that the most valuable thing you can have is friends in it all. Most of whom are regular posters on this very thread :)

All power to your elbow girl!

    Love weezl xxx

  • Weezl - I have some time I can give to this - I could probably do with [STRIKE]a kick up the bum[/STRIKE] some proper motivation as I can be a bit of a slattern at times :D I'm happy to contribute in any way I can.

The honey/raw food isn't non-negotiable as such, from the honey perspective that's just how my ds in particular takes his bread and porridge so in my eyes to encourage eating bread and porridge more frequently would be linked to having honey more often (they don't actually have it very often at all at home, just usually on those two items!) I'm happy to reduce the 5 a day, especially raw-food wise, but I'd want to keep an eye on it - I wouldn't want to reach the stage where I was saying - honey, our food budget is gone, we can't afford another bag of apples but we have 30 homemade biscuits in the tin. Having said that I fully appreciate when people's budgets are completely stretched they may have to say this. Plus I don't know that follow the plan I *would* be saying that, I'm just saying that would be a point of caution to me.

Budget wise, £100 a month would be awesome :D Realistically I'm happy to take it higher - I imagine we spend £300+ a month easily right now, so even approaching that figure is a vast improvement.

Well surprisingly the fritters were a huge success ex gave them a 7/10 and would happily have them again. He loved the garam masala and for him he felt that taste made the dish seem meaty. There was more than enough to eat. We added a little tomato sauce from the pizza and spiced it up to have as a dip as we felt it needed something "wet" but will def have it again. Hope everyone else has the same success xx

Another good Kitty meal :) !!!!!! had baked beans with his, as he thought it'd be too dry otherwise (and from others' comments, he was not alone in thinking this !), I had them as they were meant to be, DD had one as a side to her normal meal. Everyone ate them, everyone would be happy to have them again (me least of all, in reversal of the usual state of affairs, as I was under the weather and ended up suffering with the ariarnia syndrome - they did everything they should not have done; fell apart, burnt, stuck to the pan.... Grrrrr. LOL.)

BNS tart - second time round I made this, and the verdict is still - yeah, good stuff. In an ideal world, !!!!!! says, cream or custard with it, please, but still good enough to eat on its own.

Wednesday 8th September will be the last official day of my Kitty month. I say the last official day because I still have lotsa Kitty food in the freezer, and I will definitely continue making many CFR meals, but the point is that there are two Kitty dinners left for me to test - onion tart tatin and moroccan rice.

So I will be having onion tart tatin on Monday and
    moroccan rice on Tuesday.

Is anyone else joining me ?
  • Toad in the Hole (Coming Soon!)

My OH made the toad in the hole this evening and gave it a 10/10. He thought it was home cooking at it's best and has portioned up the remainder for the next few evenings :)

I had some more nut roast this evening and it was just as nice after being reheated in the microwave. It had firmed up over night in the fridge too.

  • Hi,

We were on leftover cottage pie tonight.

Snow - I have 2 adults and a 3 year old in my family, I don't reduce the quantities, I either freeze the left overs or have it again the next day either for lunch or tea.

The veggie burgers and cottage pie definitely benefit from a night in the fridge.

Pinkhayley - you're welcome, I'm always looking to add variety to our meals and to extend my veggie options and save money.
