Weezl and friends Phase 3 - sitting pretty with Kitty

Just a quick response (praying it works this time)...New to the thread trying to vary my diet (away from rice, lentils and mayo EVERY night apart from nights I get free food@ the mission) and trying to go veggie...Just lashed out on a food processor (I have MH probs and it got me to eat cheese for the first time in over a year so I think it's therapy monies but not good for frugaldom... See my posts of frugal living for more info) and like then Nuala suggested this thread and the CFR...
Now more about me..I'm single...live in a small wee (but lovely) flat in Scotland...Not the tidiest of people and not always well enough to cook but do enjoy baking from time to time but find it expensive...when not well I buy reduced rolls from Mr.S at about 7.30pm...when well I can cook
..
Menu plan every week then food shop...quite curious about the bread recipe. Got loaf tis from PL the other day so sorted there though think I'll be doing batches of 2 (one out, one to freeze) and slicing them and freezing. Also interested in making own mayo as eat a lot of that. Not least with lunches (easy sandwich filla = mayo and chopped/grated veggies of choice....lasts 3 days...don't know if it freezes)
Also kitty - when I was 'dieting' (off topic officially.) I was on a site called SP and they had a site for recipes called sparkrecipes (american) which you could submit recipes (make them public or private) and it'd work out all the nutritional info for you. It's free so might save you some hassle...depending on the database.
I know most of the stuff is for Mr. A but I've got so many things handy like asian supermarkets etc...in fact I think I can pretty much get most things (asides from tinned stuff) cheaper than Mr. A from local shops etc. I've gotten the garlic granules already from the local hippie community.
My major downfall with this 'new food budget' is like the fact I get an organic veg box every fortnight (just started....therapy again). but then if I use all that up (a challenge) it works out just over 50p a day. So I'm looking at 30p or so for rest of food budget...does this food budget count milk cos I drink a lot of that and coffee (can't do without my addictions but can deffo try and reduce)...
Anyhow that's me...Erme....trying to pay off her debts and get a job and recover before ESA bites her and a christian; bargain woman (god provides my needs but not my wants) and generally contented (finally) person with her own probs (everyone has them) but a lot to be thankful for none the less.

PS. Sorry that intro was soooo long...the debts are from untreated MH illness years ago and bad financial advice. I've got my head out of the sand now but I'm far from there yet. Wish I'd discovered MSE years ago!!!
And if you wonder why I'm so quiet it's cos I started on page 1 about 3 this morning and am now on page 18/19 or so

Right.
Everyone sorted for Saturday? I need to go dig up the attendance list so we don't miss anyone out on the day. I think Weezl proposed a 10am meet time (especially as these things never go to plan) - is that too early for anyone's train? Please lemme know.
I think since we never know about the weather and such...those that want to bring a picnic lunch do so and we will make all attempts to eat outside in the park surrounding the museum. Those that cannot/don't want to bring their own food can pick something up from the museum cafe. If it rains, then we can hopefully invade the cafe or worst comes to absolute worst, decamp to a nearby pub.
As a reminder, the Ministry of Food exhibit tickets cost £4.95 adult, £2.50 children, £13.00 family. I think we'll probably go there first, then have lunch and then back into the museum for general browsing. Obviously, we can see how things go on the day!
I think we should meet in front of the cannons outside. I'll look for a harried-looking weezl with a double pushchair and two gorgeous little boys. For anyone not on Facebook, I have curly blonde hair and an 8-month old blond baby who will most likely be in a purple pushchair (unless I change my mind and I carry him in a green sling
).
I'm hoping I'll be able to make it. If so, I'll probably arrive around 10.30 I would think. I'll find you anyway0 -
Hello and welcome, Erme :j I think that most of us on here have taken on board the aspects of the CFR site that work for us and incorporated them into our normal routine - I am sure that you can make it work for you, too
If you post the contents of your veggie box when it gets delivered, I am sure we can put our collective heads together to work out how the CFR recipes can be adapted to use your veggies and suit your needs. As for milk - option 1 allows for some milk and teabags, but option 2 is vegan. Once again, pick and choose what suits you0 -
Hi,
I made the Saag Aloo last night, I fiddled with it a bit, I threw in some extra ground cumin (twas in the cupboard) as was the turmeric - added a bit of colour. I served it with bread as no rice in the house. DH and I enjoyed it, 3yo found it a bit spicy, but that might be my fault for just throwing the chilli powder in and not measuring it.
I think next time I make it I might get a bit of colour on the potatoes before throwing in the spinach - which was fresh instead of frozen.
With the leftovers I threw in some ham stock (had ham for tea tonight done in the slow cooker) and blitzed it down to make a spicy spinach and potato soup, which I will freeze and use for lunches.Proud to be dealing with my debts

Slow cooker
But a largish saucepan on the hob will work just as well !

I have a slow cooker, I did my ham in there today, I'll try it.
Next week I'm planning to make:
Breakfast Pancakes and Porridge for Breakfast (this will be for DD and I as DH won't eat dried fruit)
Lunches: Spicy Pea Soup, Tangy Bean Pate, Red Lentil Pate, Houmous - all cold as I have nowhere at work to make toast or eat hot food.
Evening Meal: Roast Chicken Dinner, Onion Tart, Calzone, Pasta Amatricina, Bacon and Onion Pudding.
The lunches will be repeated throughout the week.
5 evening meals as I will have some chilli from this week in the freezer and the other night will be whatever is left in the fridge/freezer.
I'm not which snacks I'm going to make yet.
I've chosen these meals as I have a lot of the ingredients in my cupboards already.Proud to be dealing with my debts
