Weezl and friends Phase 3 - sitting pretty with Kitty

Right.
Everyone sorted for Saturday? I need to go dig up the attendance list so we don't miss anyone out on the day. I think Weezl proposed a 10am meet time (especially as these things never go to plan) - is that too early for anyone's train? Please lemme know.
I think since we never know about the weather and such...those that want to bring a picnic lunch do so and we will make all attempts to eat outside in the park surrounding the museum. Those that cannot/don't want to bring their own food can pick something up from the museum cafe. If it rains, then we can hopefully invade the cafe or worst comes to absolute worst, decamp to a nearby pub.
As a reminder, the Ministry of Food exhibit tickets cost £4.95 adult, £2.50 children, £13.00 family. I think we'll probably go there first, then have lunch and then back into the museum for general browsing. Obviously, we can see how things go on the day!
I think we should meet in front of the cannons outside. I'll look for a harried-looking weezl with a double pushchair and two gorgeous little boys. For anyone not on Facebook, I have curly blonde hair and an 8-month old blond baby who will most likely be in a purple pushchair (unless I change my mind and I carry him in a green sling

We reckon we should be there about 10.30 on Saturday - the train arrives at 10-ish, then (hopefully) no more than half an hour to get to the IWM.0

oh allegra re the portion sizes being huge, am a bit worried about kitty's lot losing weight. the risotto is 775 cals, but if she makes 3 out of 2 portions will she be getting skinny cos her dinner is then just 516?
wonder why its different to shirl's planner...
the only thing i can think of is that my vegan friend did say she has to eat 6/7 times a day...
ie is vegan food filling but you need lots of it?
I have found that on Shirl's plan DH, DSs DB etc all had plenty to eat and they were doing outdoor work and it was really cold at the time.
I have noticed them going for the snacks at night when we have had the vegan rissotos and rise e bisi.
We eat a lot of bean curry, shepherdless pies etc here already and they never show any signs of being hungry in between those meals.
DB has lost about 2 stone whilst being here as he doesn't get any unhealthy snacks. The rest of the family have stayed the same.
Allegra, thanks for the info. I had already planned for a bean chilli tomorrow so I may just adjust it to suit Kitty's planner.
We have already had shepherdless pie this week so I am part way there. I will do some shopping and see if we can link in more at the weekend.
I wish I was nearer so I could join you all too

Pea Risotto tonight.
After reading the comments about the portion sizes I did 1/6 of recipe instead of 1/4.
Used approx 65g rice, 150g peas, 15g sun dried tomatoes, 25g onion,10g oil and a pinch or shake of seasonings.
Started with 170ml stock but as I was cooking a small portion had to add more water to stop it sticking.
Found this portion size plenty for me.
I don't think I would do it again though."When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us" Alexander Graham Bell0 -
A little behind schedule compared to the rest of you, but we've just eaten the pea and sun-dried tomato risotto, and very nice it was, too.
Weighing out the ingredients before putting them in the pan, the quantities were indeed rather startling. 400g of rice is alarming in an academic sort of a way (being more than we would normally cook for four of us), and 900g of frozen petits pois in an oh-my-goodness-is-this-green-mountain-really-what-900g-of-peas-looks-like sort of a way. The final dish almost filled a very large saucepan, but we still managed to eat about 3/4 of it, so there is at least one helping left for lunch tomorrow.
I used basmati rice (so the texture is distinctly un-risotto-like) and it took a bit more water than indicated in the recipe -- but it is delicious, with the popping of juicy peas and the occasional burst of sun-dried tomato flavour. Initially, I thought I would prefer more Marmite/mustard/vinegar but then as I embarked on my second bowlful I decided it was fine as it was.
Another recipe we would be happy to eat under any financial circumstances whatsoever. Although I would prefer to make less of it, calories or no calories!
Bean curry tomorrow night, but I'll have to delay the nut roast until Saturday. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I haven't managed to test any more recipes...
But I am about abit more next week... so hopefully I will get one or two done then0
