Well I ventured to the most amazing market in the world this morning, Borough market, where I bought enough fruit to feed the 5000:T. Then went to ikea and bough beautiful glass jars (amongst lots of other things I didnt need but were pretty) and so tomorrow is jam/chutney making day:). We have decided to make a twist on the strawberries and champagne jam we tested at the market ( we tasted all the beautiful expensive stuff just so we could recreate it rather than buy it:o)and are going to make a ''berries and booze'' jam (mr arty made up the name). So we have rasperries/strawberries and sparkling wine (cuz we couldnt afford champagne or even cava:rotfl:. We are also making a tomato and caramalised onion chutney. If it goes well I will post piccies, if not I'll just pretend we didnt have time to make them lol:p.

Mockmas next week...hope everyone has their cameras ready

I LOVE going to the market for fruit and veg. Although I always buy too much and then struggle carrying it all home.We went to Ikea yesterday too but only bought a few bits and bobs. I love all their candles and vases though.

Goodluck with your preserve making, can't wait to see some photos :)

I made the lemon and gingery cheesecake and will give verdict later after Sunday lunch, can't wait to sample it. It's been calling at me from the fridge for the last 24 hours!

Frugalicious, baby ! :) That's what I always do - when I walk to Kingsthorpe, I pop into the 'Trose first to browse, and pick up all their fancy schmancy recipes and leaflets, then go next door into Asda to buy the ingredients to recreate the wonderfully expensive stuff featured in those :D

Yeah, was a fabby market and we did indulge in buying two homemade pies, I had wild mushroom and asperagus and mr arty had one know as 'mr porky' which was basically meat, meat and more meat LOl..Had them for dinner and as a treat they were brilliant. I wanted to buy some jam but it was £7.50 for a teeny tiny pot and I'm not rich enough to splash that sort of cash lol.

The first batch of 'berries and booze' is underway, tasting nice so far:)

went to Budgens this morning and they have a new feature. They have 2 freezers full of stuff from a chain called Cooks

Cooks do very good quality frozen meals, there is a branch in Tunbridge Wells, our nearest town. They taste like home cooking (tried the samples) but blimey they're expensive

    fish pie for 4, £16.95, cheesecake £25

I don't know who all these people are who live in Heathfield and surrounds, but they seem to spend the entire time buying take aways and ready meals and the rest of their time in charity shops judging by the shops here. Heathfield is a very small market town and has a huge number of takeaways, cafes and charity shops

It really doesn't look like the kind of place that could support that many eateries

there was much muttering, by me, at said freezer this morning, on how many days 4 people could eat for the price of that :)

    Blinkin heck!!!

Similarly, whilst I was making the lemon and gingery cheesecake, my OH was browsing on the cheesecake factory website in the states and you can order a 10inch cheesecake for around $52!

The CFR cheesecake went down brilliantly at lunch and I have been asked to make it again for mockmas. Success! So Weezl I salute you, you frugal cheesecake creating genius! :T

p.s Arty, your jam and chutney looks amazing! The jars are really lovely too :)

Arty – your jams & chutneys look fabulous.

In Oz BNS is called ‘pumpkin’. On Masterchef Oz this evening the challenge was to cook a veggie meal to be judged by 6 ‘Bob’s’ – called the blokey challenge. The ‘pumpkin’ curry won. I’m sure that a BNS curry would fit into Shirl’s repertoire – she already has BNS & garam masala on her shopping list.

BTW if anyone is interested, the episodes of Masterchef Oz that will be aired on Watch on 7 & 8 Nov were filmed in London, with Jamie as the guest chef on Sunday & Heston on Monday.
  • That jam looks lovely arty, they'll make fab gifts.

A collection of Bobs eh Julie? Wonder what the collective noun is :).

Must be time to try the cheesecake now Hayley has had success with it too!
