    Weezl,

I am planning on making the lemon and ginger cheesecake this weekend and was wondering if I put it in the oven on the same temp and for same time as the chocolate nut one? Also, is it the same size tin as that one?

    Thank you
    :)

    Hope everyone is well.

hayles I used the 24cm spring form tin, the same size as for nigella's version of the cheesecake

the cfr version is smaller, so would be quite thin in a 24 cm tin. HTH :)

Sorry Weezl, I'm still a bit confused :o

The lemon and ginger one, with the ingredients list that Shanks tried, will that be too thin for the 24 in tin?

welcome back poohbear- nice to see you yesterday :) how are you doing?

sami, sorry the pie wasn't a hit with your boys :( the only thing i wondered, do you think it's a texture thing or is it maybe the mustard? Fergie noms it down, but he doesn't like it with mustard in.

Well Chris is a bit funny with well food :p so it wasn't a surprise, he actually burst into forced tantrum tears while wailing "I wanted fish fingers!!" :rotfl:

I'm not sure about Edgar, he usually eats anything we give him *shrug*

I must confess I didn't even notice mustard on the ingredients :o so there wasn't any in it. I'm not sure i have any in anyway, only DH likes it so it only gets bought if he asks for it.

Did you have any thoughts on the cereal bars, are they to expensive ingredients? (they were listed on the site as %'s so should be relatively easy to work out?)

ah! ok it obviously wasn't the mustard then :rotfl: hmmmn sorry about that. Glad your DH liked it tho. I did look at the cereal bars, and I do think we can do something frugalisabley similar...

The test kitchen here at cfr towers is doing a bacon lasagne trial this afternoon :) so I'll also see what we can do with oats :) Are there any ingreds you prefer it not to have?

oh and I'm not sure if its just the brand I bought but Chris hated marmalade, I tasted it and it was a bit bitter is that normal?
    Edgar loved it though :)

I keep meaning to look at the bacon lasagne, my immediate thought was; Will it be very salty? but I've not got around to checking :o
I can't eat oats so probably wouldn't make anything family meal-ish with them. Tesco used to do wheat flakes that were a fab sub for me but they've stopped selling them now :(

  • Hey everyone

Am just catching up with everything as my Skype has been on the blink and been a bit busy in RL for a change - but have returned with a couple of new recipes, so thought I'd share. :)

For fans of CFR's panzanella, you might also like my friend Cath's "German Poor Man's Salad". She picked it up whilst living in Germany and has started making it regularly again since Tesco began stocking the type of sausage needed to make it authentic. Am sure a frugal version could be rustled up with cooked Asda SP sausages ;) ..although Cath says this would be sacrilege, and she's not even German! :rotfl:

    Ingredients
1 Fleischwurst sausage - C gets hers from Tesco in a 2pk that weighs 650g, so you'll need 325g if using a different kind of sausage
    2 onions, finely chopped
    2 pickled gherkins, finely chopped
4 tblsp warm water - cooled from a boiled kettle
4 tblsp salad oil - C uses rice bran oil
    4 tblsp white wine vinegar
1 tsp mild 'hot dog' style mustard - not powdered, that's too strong apparently!
    Salt and pepper to taste

    Method
Chop the sausage, onion and gherkins and mix in a bowl.

Mix the other ingredients in a jug and pour over, then cover and leave to marinade in the fridge overnight. (C says it might seem like you don't have enough dressing, but that it will gradually steep nicely into the onions so don't panic or add more liquid!)

Serve with crusty bread and voila! German Poor Man's Salad!

I'll be trying it next time I go round - last night we had Lamb Tagine (I brought CFR brownies for dessert, C thought they were lush! :T) and that was gorgeous too and sounds very simple to make - recipe is as follows:

    Ingredients
    Cubed lamb steaks
    2 onions
200g dates - don't be scared if you don't like them on their own, I don't but couldn't taste them in this
    250 ml pomegranate juice
    250ml water
1 heaped tsp each (or more/less to taste) of:
    Paprika
    Ginger
    Cumin
    Turmeric

    Method
Fry onion til soft, add all the spices and continue frying for a few minutes. Add the lamb to the pan and once browned all over, add the pomegranate juice and water and season with a little salt.

At this point, you can either stick the lot in a slow-cooker and leave on low all day (at least 4-6 hrs or longer), or bring the contents of the pan to the boil, then leave to simmer on low for at least 2 hrs.

Serve with rice or couscous and for a touch of finesse, sprinkle over some fresh pomegranate seeds. Delicious!

Hope everyone's having a good start to the weekend - and Sammi and Weezl, I await the cereal bar development with interest and would be a willing tester, love them but rarely buy them now as nice ones seem quite expensive and have never attempted making my own. Sounds a good idea! :)

    Night all
