    Hi,

Just wanted to to say that i recently found CFR and have been following option one. It has been brilliant to have the shopping list and weekly planner for such an affordable amount.

So far i have made the porridge, pasta carbonara (i love this), onion pie, leek and potato soup (i love this too), HM pizza which my 16 yr old made, boodle biscuits and raisin biscuits, HM bread.

The spicy pea soup didnt work out well and i wasnt keen on the flavour but that's my fault as i forgot about it in the pan and it burnt on the bottom!! And im not keen on the garam masala so i may leave that out of recipies in future.

I have ordered more bread loaf tins and a couple of other kitchen things but because my food shop is so cheap i can afford to do that.

I think the christmas planner looks great so far and i am looking forward to using it.

There are some recipies i like more than others but i enjoy trying all of them and then i know what i like for next time.

You have done a brilliant job of this and i will definitely be using the planner next week x
thank you! that's a very kind and encouraging message, it really helps to know that people are actually benefitting from the site

about the garam masala, it's really just a way of shirl only having to buy one all purpose seasoning, rather than having to faff around with jars of cinnamon, cumin etc etc...

are you able to work out which of the flavours is contains that you aren't keen on? it might mean i can suggest something more yummy?

  • Hello everyone. I haven't been doing much testing lately - busy with work, family stuff etc. I have been following the thread and everyone's adventures though.
I'm hoping to try the roast pork soon, but just have a quick question first. I would probably use a smaller piece of meat for just the two of us. Are the current cooking times based on the size of the joint, or is it not so relevant with slow roasting? Feedback so far suggests that this is a yummy dinner, so I don't want to inadvertantly cremate it!!
  • [STRIKE]Morning[/STRIKE]Afternoon All  Started this 3 hours ago but work has been a bit crazy!

Still feeling embarrassed over my silly drunken posts last night :o Did only have one glass of wine... but my glasses are quite big! :rotfl:Damn you Morrisons and your irresistible £3.99 offer on my fave Blossom Hill White Grenache!

Anyway, did have some CFR ideas to share but my hungover mind has gone blank! Do have a couple of OT questions tho:

    1. Arty or Allegra - please could I have the fishcake recipe that was mentioned the other day, the one Arty posted the pics of that looked scrummy? Got two girls in my office wanting it now, as well as moi!

    2. Any nutrition experts on here have any advice on best foods to eat to boost your immune system? My friend, her hubby and their lil boy are always run down and getting ill, have recommended lots of berries, oranges and kiwi for Vit C/antioxidants, but don't really know what I'm on about :rotfl:Any advice would be much appreciated!

Back to the grind now, woohoo!

Arty I salute your hardcore-ness! Dread to think what I'd post after a bottle... my tolerance to booze is pathetic nowadays! Am more of a 'smoker' ;)

Soooo Allegra do you by any chance still have the link/recipe for the fishcakes? Thought it was your own creation, will have a look on the Beeb site in a bit and see if I can find it.

Ugh I CANNOT be bothered with work today! Not on phones doing admin work... zzzzzzzzzzz

  • Spaghetti al Aglio

    Hi Ladies

Spaghetti Al Aglio was a regular before I had to give up wheat (and garlic and onions!!) and I have tried making it with dried garlic. There is no comparison. I appreciate the budget is tight but I would recommend that you make this with the freshest garlic you can get hold of - It is Christmas week after all!! If you do decide to use fresh garlic, be choosy when you buy it. The Bulb should be firm and heavy. Old garlic smells rank! I wasn't afraid to peel back part of the outer husk to have a better sniff. My mother's tip was to add it to hot oil, not cold, though not too hot to brown it, together with the salt. Brown garlic was a no no. It also taste wonderful made with a generous glug of EV olive oil, but that's for a flush month moneywise!

I sometimes also added cooked broccolli, spinach, turnip tops or flowering rape, sauteing them in the oli before adding the pasta.

    Now I'm hungry!

I think this was it, Venus - closest to what I normally do - I use parsley, and water instead of wine or stock. http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/3627/simple-fish-cakes

Yup that was it, except i forgot to put onion in, only had white fish and no parsley, so used mixed herbs and also didnt use wine or stock. Also I rolled them in some breadcrumbs....hhmmmm.....so you could say I didnt really follow the recipe at all LOL

That's the way I "follow" recipes all the time, Arty (unless I am trying to test for Weezl, of course ;) )
