Hi everyone :) This Xmas week thing is fab. I will try and cook along with you all on Hallowe'en by veganising where possible i.e. veg sausage, using oat/soy milk etc for sauces, doing the nutloaf for the main meal.

Are you guys testing the one Xmas meal or the entire week? I am tempted to give it a go, perhaps subbing avocado or tofu in place of the smoked salmon/egg mayo making the eggless mayo with soy milk etc. If there is a veg plan on the backburner I will help out where I can with that. I can keep shopping list of that week too with my subs to see how it compares; it will interest me if nothing else to see the cost comparison :) x

I'm doing the week, Boodle (with Christmas Day on Halloween) - I think most others will be doing just the Christmas Day menu.

That's the way I "follow" recipes all the time, Arty (unless I am trying to test for Weezl, of course ;) )

Katie and I have lots in common :) I adore olives in all forms. New eschelons for katie to try are anchovy-stuffed and sundried tomato stuffed ones.

    Droooool, slurp. Nomminesss. Drool.

    Ahem.

And I have a favour to ask, steel yourself MDW!

The majority of the leftovers from the christmas day meal are incorporated into other dishes. The soup and pork go to the tortilla meal and the veggies go to the spanish omelette.

Would you be kind enough to write a paragraph (a titchy one really!) on what shirl might do with any leftover gravy, roast onions etc?

Thinking cap is going on :)

Hi all :) haven't caught up fully yet, will do in a mo.

We had a lovely family trip today to a city farm, which I really enjoyed.

I have already spotted fivenations post, thank you five! I shall see if i can afford fresh instead. How many cloves will i need for four people? It's lovely that you are stillreading even though so many of our meals are off-bounds, grrr allergies!

MDW thank you, what a star :T:T:T

Lovely to see you back Boodle, did you spot that your biscuits are becoming famous on old-style due to CFR? I think it'll be like twink and those hobnobs :rotfl:

Venus, I'm not sure if it's exactly what you needed but lemons worked out as by far the best bang for your buck deliverer of vit C for the least cash. If you can find a recipe which uses the whole lemon (which I happen to know a certain website may have a cordial which fits the bill) then the nutrition is even more maxed out :)

I'll do more catching up now....

  • How's this Weezl?

Leftover Gravy from the Roasted Pork can be saved and served with the Toad in the Hole for people who dislike onions.

Leftover roasted onions could be used in the onion gravy, houmous, and the sausage and onion salad. Or as a sneaky snack of hot dogs and onions if there are left over sausages hanging around.

I would also recommend freezing any leftover gravy to use as a time saver during the working week.

  • Just had the Pork and Mushroom Stuffed Tortillas for tea.

They are gorgeous, I can't recommend them enough.

Katie helped DH rolling out the tortillas, whilst I cooked them.

I made a 1/2 portion of soup first then stirred the onions and pork into it and let it stand whilst I made the tortillas.

Be back later as I'm trying the brownies.

    2. Any nutrition experts on here have any advice on best foods to eat to boost your immune system? My friend, her hubby and their lil boy are always run down and getting ill, have recommended lots of berries, oranges and kiwi for Vit C/antioxidants, but don't really know what I'm on about :rotfl:Any advice would be much appreciated!
I'd say they just need to make sure they get an overall balanced diet. If you focus to much on one particular nutrient, there can be a danger of creating a defecit in others. That said, there are things (such as the lemons weezl mentioned) which are high in vitamin C so it shouldn't be too hard to get plenty vitamin C without creating a defecit in others. Also, what kind of illnesses are they getting? If it's often sickness kind of bugs then hygiene rather than nutrition may be the issue. Also do they get plenty of rest as tiredness can make people more susceptible to illness (as can stress). You don't need to answer the questions - it's just worth bearing in mind that nutrition is not the only factor in this kind of thing.

But all the above is just my own opinion and I am not an expert.

Made the cranberry and cashew roast today. I used 10g less of the cranberries though as the ones I bought in morrisons was that size. I also didn't add salt because I never do. Well I love the texture and the added sweetness of the cranberries, but I wish I add added salt, as it needed a bit of something. Perhaps more garlic or using salted cashews would of been better for me, plus I wouldn't of had to roast the nuts! I wasn't sure about the temperature to roast the nuts and took them off as they smelled like they was going to burn, but wasn't really brown, so this may of added to the slight blandness.

I will make it again with salted cashews and I am planning on trying a version with some of the cashews replaced wtih brazil nuts and add some yeast extract so that I get seleium and B12 also as I did very much like the cranberries in it and it does make it christmassy.

I have took a picture to add to my blog, but wasn't sure if you wanted me to post a link yet, as the christmas menu is in its testing stage and recipes may change, please let me know before I do my blog or facebook post about it.

    Thanks
    Sandra
