  • Thanks Weezl & Susan for the Vit C advice, will pass it on and point my friend in the direction of the lemon cordial recipe (and CFR generally of course ;)), not sure whether it'll be up her street but will let you know if she does try it!

Would HM lemonade or lemon iced tea be good too? Am guessing the cordial is particularly good coz it uses the whole fruit (skin, pith and all, hence the saved carcasses from the hummous?) Or am I being thick again here? :rotfl:Have made both HM lemonade and iced tea before but just using fresh lemon juice (no carcasses!), sugar and cheap tea bags!

Just a thought... but maybe the iced tea could be suggested in Hayley's alternatives article, for people who aren't keen on the cordial itself? Sure it could be used as a base for iced tea and there are teabags on the shopping list, aren't there? Will test it for you if you want. :)

using salted cashews would of been better for me, plus I wouldn't of had to roast the nuts!

I also thought that using salted cashews may have been better... but the packet size in Asda of the 2 packets are different... and I opted for the one the recipe calls for. I think next time, I too will try the salted cashews, to see if it varies the flavour. It will certainly cut down on the cooking time, as you wouldn't have to roast the cashews :D

ISOM, this is the one I always use (from Khris Dillon's "Curry Secret") - it tastes just like those you get in an Indian restaurant, and it's one of our favourite frugal veggie dishes:

  • Morning All!

Am here again to pester you all with another food question!

Which fruit (if any) goes with beef? Am thinking of making a chutney/sauce-type something to go with steak next time I have it - got reduced sirloin steak last night (£1.49!) :money: and it was GORGEOUS with my usual baked sweet potato and fried mushrooms but fancy trying some type of sauce next time and don't like any of the 'traditional' ones for with steak (peppercorn etc), any ideas?

Have looked at the CFR tomato/onion chutnies (sp?? looks funny!) but really would like something fruity... if it's possible?

Vaguely remember maybe reading a beef and blackberry/blackcurrant sauce recipe, but would that be a bit like having jam with my steak?:rotfl:

    Thanks in advance

    Venus xxxx

Whatever turns you on :) Think cranberry sauce though - that's not jammy at all, now is it ?

I find plum/prune and/or apricot goes really well with beef - so a plum chutney of sorts perhaps ?
