Whatever turns you on :) Think cranberry sauce though - that's not jammy at all, now is it ?

I find plum/prune and/or apricot goes really well with beef - so a plum chutney of sorts perhaps ?

    Hello Allegra!

Good point bout cranberry sauce not being jammy, I luuuuurve that stuff, especially with turkey, sausage and stuffing sarnies at Christmas. Mmmmm... if I wasn't stuffing my face with a sausage roll right now, I'd be drooling! :rotfl:

Am v much liking the plum idea - duck with plum sauce is one of my absolute faves!

Usually have shop-bought plum sauce in my cupboards (it's lush with sausage sandwiches as well as duck!) so might try a bit of that next time and if I like it with steak, get really adventurous and have a go at making it from scratch... maybe with a bit of ginger too?

As for apricots - interesting, not had them much at all before but might give that a go too, will Google for recipes. My kitchen ain't gonna know what's hit it! :rotfl:

    Thanks m'dear

It is FABULOUS in the slow cooker, I might add. I used some flat Coke for the classic coke-and-pork trick and it was soooo moist at the end.

  • Hi Guys,

For those of you that have been doing the Christmas Week and are thinking of doing it in the future, the list of ingrediants have changed slightly due to some feedback from some people. The changes have allowed Weezl to 'buy' some tomato puree, which means that there is a different flavour houmous on the planner (some feedback was that the planner was slightly onion heavy). This means some things have changed slightly, i.e we now have evaporated milk, single cream and whipping cream replacing the old ingredients.

I just thought I would let everyone know so they dont get a shock at new ingredients, also the people (Poohbear and MDW I think) who are currently following the planner, please continue on with the original ingredients, we dont want CFR costing people money rather than saving it:rotfl::rotfl:

    Hope everyones okxxx

We tried the toad in the hole recipe for dinner this evening and it was lovely. There were no complications involved in scaling it down to cater for two - I just halved the ingredients and it worked fine. We'll definitely be having this again.

I shall see if i can afford fresh instead. How many cloves will i need for four people? It's lovely that you are still reading even though so many of our meals are off-bounds, grrr allergies!

I think I used two juicy cloves.

While I cant try many recipes I'm still picking up a lot of hints. Well done and Good luck to you all.

  • A very CFR house tonight - pot luck out of the freezer, turned out to be a mixture of Economy Gastronomy Pizza Sauce and Chilli, garlic wedges and the rest of the tortillas from last night, very yummy together.

DH has announced that he's ordered new brake discs for his motorbike which will be ready for collection next weekend for the bargain price of £195!!! Will be a very CFR month next month.

  • I can sympathise MDW, just had the car back from it's service. We only just bought it so decided to have the major service at the main dealers to get it checked over thoroughly. Oh my oh my. Serious, serious money. Am trying to comfort myself with the idea that all it will need are oil changes and filters for the next 100 000, which it wont go to the dealer for. Lots of cfr meals for us.

Tonight we had something they call pulled pork here. Basically the pork from the xmas menu, roasted or done in the slow cooker then shredded with two forks. You end up with a huge big mound of pork, even when you start with a small one! Here they eat this soaked in bbq sauce and on a roll. I like it better in gravy and 2 of the kids eat it dry. It seems to go further because its all fluffed up. Might be an alternative to the tortillas, if you're not keen on them. Most sauces could work, tomato, brown, both together, plum, bit of apple, cranberry....

I'm really excited the xmas menu is approaching completion. Xmas is so stressful for so many, especially when money is tight, feels good to be involved in offering a bit of a get out of jail free card.
